Vin#'s

    hey im new...i am about to purchsase a 1968 buick skylark convertible.i was wondering where i might be able to locate the vin #'s. i know that there is supposed to be one on the driver side dash and one on the driver side door. is there any where else i could look to find them?? any help would be great Thnx.

    Welcome to V8Buick! No VIN on the door. Driver side dash near the bottom of the windshield, and if it's the original motor, it is stamped on the driver's side front of the block as well, not the whole VIN, but partial, including the last 6 digits of the VIN. Also would find partial VIN on the original transmission.

    If its a 350 you can find the engine number on the front of the engine, on the passenger side of the block next to the water pump. Its on a flat surface of the block and you may need to scrap it to see it. I found it easier to find mine from looking up from under the car.

    details?

    is it possible for me to see the vin on the block or the transmission with out taking them out of the car?? would it be the entire vin or just the production number. because i can figure out everything else out by the cowl plate all i need is the production number??can anyone help. :confused:

    It should be on the driver side, on a 68 350, per my 68 Chassis Service Manual. Now, there's no accounting for the whims of a line worker back in the day, so it's possible it could be found stamped on the psngr side. Stranger things have been found on our old cars... :error:
