he All Buicks Libraries buick-libraries.boattail-riviera-by-buick.com is going to bid on this
    - but i doubt there is enough in the buy books donations pot to meet the reserve -so if you out bid the libraries
    - please consider photographing (its to big for a scanner- pm for method to get best pictures - memembrs can see my 71 colour trim and exterior/top selector in the library for how it was done)

The Libraries are Contributors Only and this and any other similiar Buick pubs you may have, would make great addition to what is already there.
It would be your ticket for full libraries membership, and you will get back cleaned up, searchable bookmarked copies for your future use. Plus you get can additional pubs, members shared downloads and videos as you progress thru the contributors levels. (The page level contributions are low for now, but will increase as the libraries grow)
Use The Donate Documents to set up your contributors folder and send in just about any you can format from raw page scans, photo even to finished pdfs.

    Scanning tips
Around 300 dpi works best for character recognition of small text (150 is ok for large text) any higher than 300 just takes longer to scan.
When scanning getting things straight is the main thing (I can correct this but its very time consuming).
Use the same setting for all pages and do pages in order including backs of covers and any blank pages so the flip books will be close as possible to flipping thru the real thing. - exposure etc are much easier to correct if the scans are consistent go for clarity of text/pictures above color of page for old documents, usually default scanner setting work out just fine. Your going get to shadows along seams of some books - weighing the page your scanning down along the seam can really reduce this an stops distortion of the text. and is much easier on the seam of you book than pressing down on it - for books in binders take the pages out (especially if using camera)
    - for books to large for scanners or for those that dont have scanners - using a tripod and camera can get great results set one leg longer and weight it down to get the camera directly over the pub without shadows or set camera on table edge to steady and keep things parallel - use indirect light to reduce glare rather than flash - and the highest resolution setting of your camera.
i can work with what your scanner outputs - if your scanner has auto crop it often crops to text area - better to set it for page size or with camera beyond the pub - scan so whole page shows I'd rather crop the edges than have cut off different size pages (I end up doing that anyway if any straightening is needed, and scanners especially those that save to PDF always make some page crooked).

I don't have a horse in this race because I have a 67 GS, but I realize that this is a rare document. Rather than an individual buying and hoarding this, I would like to propose that fellow collectors contribute what they are able toward the BIN and have the Boattail library take possession and make the information available to it's members. i don't have a riv (used to have a 69 GS) but am trying to contribute something to the website to gain access to the wealth of information stored there, Maybe this will help. I have no idea who or how this might be administered but my hat is in the ring for a $25 donation to this cause. Anyone else want to chip in? If need be, and your trust level is there, I will do it, but it would be better if someone closer to the boattail site would do it. Whos up for the project?

Right. Apparently Canadian money is no good in California. :puzzled:

Rob, I don't know if that will affect the Boattail's ability to get it either....

Didn't see the hadn't tied to bid yet - guess since its US european money now in Canadian hands it no no good. _ Bad marketing - guess thats why it didn't go for buy now -like the 72 did. - That one wont be going into the libraries unless someone in US buys it and sends in photo's for the libraries.

Great thoughts Tom, thats the whole spirit behind the Libraries everyone put in/share what they have or can and we all benefit.- The 67 Chassis and body Manuals Cd's bought with library donations arrived in my here a couple weeks ago - will be in the libraries in a couple of weeks (lots of cleaning page alignment and fixing on those CD files to bring them up to the library standards plus have 65 chassis manual to finish bookmarking and 66 set to do first) - also have some 67 articles (wildcat GS400 lark)that will be going into member shared downloads in the near future
I'm in Canada so wont be able to bid on this one -- Be nice if someone who can use of it beyond - photographing and posting would get it and send in pictures -I like your Idea - best to keep it in US Shipping to Canada has become riducilas and adds $20-40 extra to everything we get from US now a days.

Problem people just know what is in them (the 71 is in the libarary including the ext colour and top selector which is often missing) - I had never seen one and wasn't keen about paying the price for something unknown - got out bid in the $200-400 range a couple of times, Finally got mine in bulk deal with some other really rare 71 stuff - Eng features/AMA specs (great book)/ Salesmen pockaet facts book and price guide (super little book well worth the going prices), 1971 Buick Salesmens Feature Guide (packed full of info whats new sections and standard optional for 71) - was some first things added to library, They are worth spending that much on if have a Buick of the year to display them with and get more attention at car shows then my Riv does. These were dealership books most got rough handling on the display stands or were thrown out at the end of the model year - finding good copies or like I was lucky enough to unopened ones is rare and there arn't enough to go around, so the library is the only way many will ever see them.

Car show season is coming - Time to relist that 71 - the 72 got its $250 buy now.

Yeah, I went ahead and bought it. I had a discussion with Rob from the Boattail site, and we are going to work together to get the info posted there, then it will be available for sale or trade for something cool for my 67 GS400 vert. I just couldn't see the info contained in it being unavailable to the average collector.

    Rob,
Would a pocket size 1971 Buick Facts Book be of any use ?
Looks like something the sales team would have carried to answer questions on the sales lot.
    Brown vinyl cover 4-1/2" X 7".
They were still calling the engine set-ups "power teams".
    Ex: Skylark was available with "Fireball 250-I6", a "Wildcat 350-2 V8" or a "Wildcat 350-4 V8"

I can mail it down & just send it back when you are done.

For those who haven't had there hands on one these the are are super display piece they are broken down into model and sub model showing all the interior trims for every one with actual fabric/vinyl/roof material samples and nice paint chips, they give wheel options, consoles, moldings for each model the 71 version is in the library. A real hit a car shows and cruise nights. like Tom said once he gets it we are going to get into the libraries, so you'll be able to see the actual book and know what your getting (will put it without a password until sold) when it up goes up for Sale/trade afterwards
    - Tom money from us foreigners will be good enough for you right. I would suggest you PM your offers to Tom and he can start the list.

    Tom, I think that's awesome.

I'd still be interested in it afterward, but I realize I might have to fight Korrie for it!!

Funny... did you notice there sure was a lot of Canadian content in this thread...

Steve the 71 facts book and it pocket price guide was some of first books I added to the libraries from my own collection and thanks to Lou gsx455-4ever the 1970 has been added also .
They are both under 60's-70's Dealership Pubs, They are about the single best piece of info for each year in a nice small package - would love to see them for every year added to the libraries - some day if we can get people involved and spending a bit with their scanners.
Lots of other 71 such books from my own collection is also there already

An example what can bee done with the libraries
    - here's a really rare one that is set up to show how the books in the library work that anyone can access. A bunch ebay listing for single section and photo copies for individual sections on Ebay ---- "exact perfection read photocopy" heres one of those http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1971-Buick-Centurion-Electra-225-AMA-Specs-Brochure-a241-1SQTQE-/350744427082 - the whole book 324 pages is in the library and is much cleaner than what they are selling (it was never opened until I got it and scanned it) and you can print sections or get your owned free -For each 250 accumulated pages (100 pages for Registry Members) or $20 donation you can select any one individual model of any of the above videos.
or select the Registry Members Downloads Catch Up.
or select any pub from the library in pdf as a free thank you.
Let us know which you would like in your donation remarks.
plus help build the libraries The libraries is the only place that even offers bookmarked and searchable or buy you can buy the sections for $8 plus US $9.95 for handling and shipping per section US $1.00 each additional (there are 4 so $50 and not get the first 85 pages with all styling and features listed)
