Looking for opinions. Just starting my 69 "cat". I am not a big fan of vinyl tops, but that's what this cat has. Re-done properly it would look nice but I'm interested in finishing this car without vinyl. It's hard to find any pics of a 2 dr 69 cat without vinyl. How about chrome trim re-placement after finishing without vinyl? Any comments or pics?
69 Wildcats look great without the vinyl! They look good with it to. I have a Buick Musclecar book that pictures a sweet black 69 without the vinyl. I wish I could transfer the picture. I'll do some searching and see what I can do.
I agree that the '69 Wildcat looks great either way, with the vinyl top, or without. On some cars, a vinyl top helps define the body lines of the rear quarter. Like my '70 Riv has no defining body line along the upper quarter. The roof and side of the car kinda blend together. Without the vinyl top. I think a '70 Riv looks fat and bloated. But with it, the top tends to define that point and make the car look lighter. But the '69 Wildcat has a nice fender line below the top. So, do what you want! Either way it'll look great! That's the way I sees it. :bglasses:
Thanks for your input guys! Another question relating to brochure pic posted by "Floydsbuick". My cat came with the reg steel rims + caps, and I'm interested in finding some factory rally rims (like 69 cat brochure) or open to other aftermarkets that look sweet. Opinions?
I'll try to scan some wildcat sans vinyl roof photos this weekend.Personally, I dig the retro look of a vinyl roof. Would be nice to have more of a contrast than on mine, but hey, what goes with baby-puke green paint other than .... ta-da, a baby-puke green roof? And hey, I personally totally dig the original wheels. Then again, I like everything factory stock, especially since the big cars aint exactly hot rods and can look a little silly with sporty wheels. I'd say understated upgrades would look fine. Hey, whatever floats (or rolls) your boat. -- Steve
