is it possible to change the color of a vinyl top? my 72 electra currently has a white top and i'm entertaining the idea of changing it black.

what could be done and would it be worth in your opinion?

Vinyl dye is available in rattle can. I changed a top from brown to black. Totally worth it IMO. Inexpensive too. :TU: Just be sure to follow the dirrections for the prep

How old is the top? Why not just get a new one if it is old anyway. Who knows how the spray bomb will hold out in the foul weather.

Also you need to see what is under one of those sponge tops from time to time as sooner or later the trapped moisture will start erroding ther metal roof itself. They look nice but were a terrible idea from a durability standpoint.

the top is in amazing condition. the car resided in arkansas until about 2 years ago, then it moved down to south texas. only when it came down here did it start getting some surface rust on the hood.

do you think it would be possible just to pull that top off and cruise around with it plain? your thoughts?

It will have a lot of glue stuck to the paint.
