I have a 55 special. the voltage regulator will not ignite generator unless I jumper the regulator. is there any fix or get a new one?

I would suggest you get a new one or get yours overhauled.

When it comes to voltage regulators and generators,
I've found that it is best to replace both.
In forty-five years, I'm on my third set of generator- regulator.

For the most part I have been able to deal with them by opening them up and checking out the contacts and then checking the integrity of the windings etc. . Many times a simple repair and ingenuity is all that is needed. Usually it is something that can be fixed unless the unit was wired wrong or abused in some way.

When you ignite the regulator are you then getting charging voltage AT the battery? I had the same problem and found Buick uses a replaceable fuse in the main charge wire inches from the battery on my '60. Fuse replaced problem solved.
