So, the LeSabre I just bought does not have a working compressor. Previous owner told me it stopped working and showed my what the mechanic did, basically looks like the took a pry bar to the clutch and bent it out so it would no longer engage. So, I'm looking to get it working but I am on a tight budget. Did some quick research and I think this is what I am planning to do, just need to see if others agree this is okay idea.

Buy new compressor and drier from rockauto. Have A/C shop evacuate the system. Removed bad compressor my self and install new compressor and drier. Go back to shop and have them pull vacuum and recharge system. I can get the compressor and drier together for about $250-275. How much should a shop charge me to do what I am proposing here?

i don't know what other shops would charge, but our shop would charge an hour labor. make sure before you install your new compressor it has the correct ammount of oil in it. depending on who you buy from, some compressors are shipped dry or low on oil. ALWAYS use new o rings.
