A-body bucket seat backs for Lemans, Tempest, GTO. Apparently they are different as they have an extra chrome trim piece on them. A buddy of mine is looking for them so I thought I would ask. o No: Thanks - Bill :TU:
What year?I have a seat back for a 68.The button to fold the seat forward is on the side instead of on the back.
Thanks guys - I'm no expert but he wants the ones with the chrome upside down "U" shaped trim that goes on the back. This is not the chrome edge trim. I'm sure its not the metal ones, so 68 or newer? John - I do not believe the Grand Prix seats are the same as the Buick A body, are they? I thought they were thicker, bigger? - Bill
Yes your right the tops are different , after I saw this I went down to the basement and found out that I had saved the bottom ( same ) and the electri seat back releases off the GP . I have several strato backs in brown . 68-72 Buick . I think those are all the same unless the 68-69 has a different release . I can post a pic if you need it
The chrome piece we are looking for goes around the recessed part. It is not the edge moulding. Sorry, - Bill
I have the chrome piece that your talking about I believe . It goes around the button itsself . I call that an escutchen . I doubt I have a perfect one but I have it . Let me know if thats what he needs . I believe it can be bought new repo thru a Chevelle or Olds supplier . Let me know if I got it right .
Bill, John, and anyone else who cares to read the following and get confused!--- To clarify--I think Bill is looking for a version of seat back that is earlier than the 68-72 types like John pictured. Most likely the METAL versions. Some, or all, of the metal versions have a sharp, defined bend or line formed into them about an inch or so (I think...may be further) from the top edge. Additionally, they have a U-shaped trim BUT the U shaped trim attaches where the seatbacks have the large depressed area in them (this area is similar to the large depressed area on the later ones that John pictured...it's not defined by the "defined bend" that I described above...the depressed area line is different and below the "defined bend" and shows up in John's pic This trim is made of metal (aluminum most likely) and fits up into the corner of the depressed area..following it all the way around. I don't think these earlier seatbacks utilized any bright trim up around the edge (like the one John posted)..but I am probably wrong on this as the Year One Olds catalog shows that trim on the back of a 66 Cutlass (around the OUTER EDGE like John pic'd...but I don't know if it's correct---they don't show any REPRO OFFERING S FOR THIS TRIM, THE EARLY SEATBACKS, or THE TRIM I THINK YOU ARE LOOKING FOR in the current Olds catalog). I'm sure I've probably added confusion as I am going off memory here...I have seen these seatbacks plenty of times and will look next time I am at a salvage yard (and get some pics if I find them). Weather permitting, I will most likely be going on Saturday morning. BTW--Year One shows the range of years for the plastic seatbacks that John pic's to be 68-72. I checked this catalog again and nothing listed for earlier seatbacks or trim. Hope my post added something other than confusion. To add further confusion, or help?...John....the chrome around the button would most likely need to be for the side button style that I think all these earlier buckets utilized. It's narrower and made of metal I am pretty sure (not the chromed plastic like the 68-72's)
Probably off subject but here's a pic of the two different SEAT RELEASE BUTTONS...top is the all metal, narrower, side-mounted "early" button. Below that is the 68, or 69-72 chromed plastic center-of-the-seatback-mounted button. I really had to dig into the stash to dig up that early buttonou:
got mine off a 67-9 Riv with the strato bench seat, and i think the toronados had the same thing as well as some caddys, good luck! maybe some riv owners can post a picture for you?:Comp: john
John- you're right. I have / had about a dozen or so sets from a 1969 GTO, 1970 GTO, various Buick GS/ Skylarks, Chevelles and Olds'. None have had that recessed trim piece. I have seen the 'bigger' cars (Rivi's, Toro's, etc) with that trim piece. HTH.
Ah - the plot thickens! No, it is not the button escutchen. Patton - you are correct, but now we need to look for an earlier seat back??!? If you can find one - GREAT! I need to start looking at Riv's/Toro's too.... Thanks! - Bill
