Thought I had fixed all the leaks but...I have water leaking from around the A/C duct(I think that's what it is) behind the kick panel. It is the oval cut out with a vacuum hose coming out). When you dump water into the cowl then the leaking begins. Do I pull it out and re-seal?? Thanks a bunch for any help. I am new at this and am open for any suggestions!! Chris
Your orig sealent is dry rotted...you can remove it and use 3/8" window butyl tape to make a new seal and reinstall it.
What is behind the plate?? I haven't done this before and don't want to goof it up. Is there anyting else I should tackle while I have it apart. I was thinking re-sealing the entire seam along the bottom edge of the kick panel and floor board. Thanks for the response. Chris
The metal could be rusted behind there, you need to carefully take the kick panel off without breaking it then take the vent out behind it and inspect it ,the seal could be bad or there could be holes also. Visual inspection is best in this situation.
I'm gonna give it a shot. Learned about breaking kick panels on the drivers side  ! Re-seal let cure and try the water test again. Hopefully no leaks. Will let ya know what I find- Chris
Glad you found and fixed it. Now get your post count up so you can put up some pics of your next fix.:TU:
How about all the things I broke trying to fix.... One other question-I flushed the drains on both sides and a bunch of crud came out of the back of the rocker panels-scews, dirt, chucks of plastic, rocks etc...neat. The passenger side drains a lot slower than the drivers side when you dump water in the cowl-is that typical or is the passenger side gunked up-if it is it's probably in the cowl area.
I notice that you haven't mentioned where you live but I would take it a bit slower with pouring water inside the body of the car. A small amount of water takes a very long time to evaporate inside the body. And all those seams and welds are becoming more suseptable to old age degradation. I try to avoid causeing rust and corrosion as a general rule. Using compressed air and some sort of tool to remove the debris is a more preferable method IMHO.
Yeah-kinda figured that out-am going to use a vacuum and a 1/2 diameter hose to fish around and suck up any gunk. I live in GA where we can have big dumps but I guess a water hose is a bit ovekill. Point taken!
