didn't know there were so many different lengths of water pumps, ordered what I thought was the correct pump, only to find its a bit short. measured the old pump, from the gasket surface to the fan hub 4 -1/8 in. what year car would this be from, I'm thinking later (73 & later) also, different impellers, 5 blade, 6 blade, short and long blades, I'm interested in hearing what I should be looking for . I did read the article by Scott and Mark.
actually a 430, but its a mixture of who knows what. I did remeasure, but the old pump has bearing movement in and out over 1/8 in, and still didn't leak, casting on old pump is PH 351,
The pulleys you have will determine the pump you need. Also, A/C and non A/C will have different pulleys. Can you post a picture or post the part numbers of your pulleys? What pump did you buy? I think the impellor quantity also has something to do with A/C or non A/C.
have to go out to the garage to look at the pulley's. OK, I have to admit, I'm spoiled, here in AZ its scattered rain, and only in the 50's I haven't worn long pants since january, LOL
Yup, that's the long pump. Like I said, there are only 2, your new one is the wrong one. If your pulleys lined up with the long pump, they won't with the short one. Was this a running engine, or one you are putting in? If the latter, yes, you need to make sure the pulleys are the right ones for the pump.
yes, running motor, and pulley's did line up, but wiggled so much, I was afraid to run it. ok, incorrect new pump will go to "pay it forward " section,
