My car is a TH350 automatic, column shift Today, it started to be a little hard to shift out of park The shift lever still pulls back, but when you pull back to slide out of park, it's a bit tough to do, and it doesn't feel like the lever is actually doing much- feels like something is out of alignment It shifts fine, it's just that it takes effort when before it took none. Seems like all gear selection is like that, but it's more noticebale when shifting from park What's the problem here? Linkage binding?
Last night? Yes. But I have owned this car for 15 years :TU: And I know about shifting out of park on a hill, but this ain't the same thing The car is now parked on essentially a flat parking lot. I know what you mean about the incline, but this is not the problem. The shifter lever doesn't seem to work smoothly going to any gear, and it also seems to not pull forward as far as it used to. Again, I have 15 years of experience pulling on this lever on pretty much a daily basis and something isn't right
Chris, I had a problem with my shifter at the BPG Nats. The trigger broke on it, and it would not come out of park. There are two metal slides, one on each side of the handle, that the trigger pulls up, to unlock the shifter. The trigger on mine, cracked on one side, right where the screw goes through. It would not lift one of the slides up. I had to disassemble the handle, to get the trigger up, then wire tie it so that it would work. Mike Garrison repros the trigger in aluminum. I'll have to order that. If it isn't that, then the cable is binding somewhere. Take it apart, and take a look. Disconnect it from the trans, and work the shifter. You should be able to isolate where the problem lies. Good luck.
With it sitting level have you tried just working it out. Going back n fourth through the gear fast. Mine gets funky after I had to shift on an steep incline. [man it hate that.] I just worked it back n fourth fast n it loosened up later once level. Like it can move or bind in a different way when the car is on a steep incline n a quick back n fourth once level loosens it out.
Yup. Didn't help. If you were to shift my transmission yourself, the first thing you would think of is that something isn't unlocking properly. It feels like an old front door lock, where you can push the lock past the hasp even when the lock is lstill ocked.
