as much as i like bracket racing my GS it really takes a beating, so i've been looking for something else to bracket race that i can drive to the track, race and drive home, still gonna run the GS just not as much, found this 92' one owner camaro, 305 tbi, 700r,gonna hop it up a little, converter, gears yada, yadauzzled: , now i'll just be another camaro out there but it should get the job done......guess i grow my mullet back.
also figured out if a car is owned by a "non" car guy they dont care if the smaller sized tires are on the rearou: see pict
First I see "Dark side", then the posters name "Chris Lee" and methinks "Old horror movies - Dracula and the like". Then it's about a 305 Camaro? How disappointing! Just kidding - It makes perfectly good sense to go Chevy, parts galore, tons of aftermarket stuff and competitive pricing. I put a 383 stroker in my '79 Corvette with a TKO 5 speed and 3:25 gears. High 12's to low 13's at the track and a top end on the highway that I can only guess at - I chicken out at 130 mph +. The Camaro will be a blast to work on and compete in - have a great time!
Looks pretty clean. By your title, I actually thought you might be referrring to a Third Gen. They will probably always be the "Rodney Dangerfield" of hobby cars because they could never shut down 5.0s off the showroom floor and are fairly expensive to make fast. Too bad, they really are a great bang for the buck. I sold my 89 GTA this summer and should sell my 89 Formula too. Don't really want to because the 305TPI / 5-speed combo is so fun to drive around :3gears: (even if it does look like a beater right now). Scrounge around for a complete L31 Vortec 350 TBI truck motor and throw it in the RS. Should easily knock a couple seconds off your 305's ET and still look stock! Also, if you haven't already, head on over to thirdgen.org
Not sure how fast you wanna go with that thing but you got your work cut out for you. Every upgrade you make will test the driveline of the car. However, that being said, if you own a buick, it probably costs pennies to get it stiffened up . Put a big block in and have fun.
looking for low 16's....my nephew is going to run it in the summit high school class next year, so i dont want anything to crazy, after he's done i'll start to hop it up a little, yes it's kinda of a turd but does drive nice, cold a/c and everything works, going to install a 2500 stall converter with lockup in it and hop up the trans:beer ...........now since it spit the front pump seal out coming back from registering it at dmvou: ou: ou:
Haha, ok you should be ok then. If that doesnt do it for ya, an intake manifold, and headers/exhaust are worth ALOT on those sbc's. And they interchange if you ever decide to go up to a 350.
just in case anyone intrested about converters, made a couple runs on the car using the g-tech pro, bone stock, timing set a zero, only has flowmaster muffler and i'am at 4000' ft elevation car ran 17.66 @ 79.8mph 0-60 was 10.6 had trans rebuilt, added corvett servo, shift kit, and put a 2800 cheapy e-bay converter in it and ran again, 16.88 @ 85.6 mph, 0-60 9.06 that is stalling it up to about 2200rpm and launching, so hoping for 15's (yay) at sea level, going to bump timing to 6 degrees (after smogged) and get some fresh air to it
ran the car for the first time last night at irwindale, got down to the final 4 cars, was spinning a little every pass but pretty consistant 10.30's 1/8 mile ran 3 10.34's in a row:shock:
