Good day to all. I have a question about a 1970 Buick 455 engine I just purchased out of Sac. Cali. I was told the engine was running and it was out of a 69 Riv. My questions is will i be able to get by on rebuild by purchasing new pumps and gaskets for engine? I have pics of it inside and out. I am not trying to turn my 1970 Buick Skylark into a race car, I just want to continue to keep it into a everyday driver but a few more horses to go with it. Please advise or comment on my dilemma.

    Thanks all,
    Larry

The original engine from a '69 Riv. would have been a 430 NOT a 455 unless it was changed at one point in the cars history.

Now that's what I was told. After looking up numbers on engine and heads it's a 1970 455. I am having problems loading up images of engine. I will keep trying. Thanks

Get the block sonic checked and make sure there is no core shift. There is a thread in the street strip section on this forum by JW. Really good info on some much needed oil mods for longevity. New rings for the Pistons would be a good idea, dual grooved cam bearings. New rod bearing, new main bearings.Have the head inspected and cleaned if needed. Then rebuilt to the proper tolerances within spec and it could be a good motor for you. Welcome from Texas. Good luck.

    Jesse Z,
Thanks for the information. I will check out the thread on this.I was aiming at not doing a total rebuild but it seems like the only way to go. I will upload pics when I figure this system out.

    Take care from Cali,

    Larry
