Heck, I live in West Texas, but I hate being cold so much I'm going to put a block heater in my 455. No more going out to a frozen car and waiting for the heater for me, even if it does only get below 30 for maybe 2 weeks out of the year. :Brow: Need one in the Ranchero, too... toasty is good!
in my 90 Volvo I put in a sears diehard it has 700cca. Also have a new alternator so I am good to go(Knocks on wood)
Hey, that's my tune.... Hadn't heard of Optima, but I've been meaning to try to find a dry battery... they're just as dependable? I don't know how many CCAs the one I have is, but it does leak. I don't fill it all the way, but I haven't driven it frequently so when I start it, it must be too much for the battery as it has to crank for a good 6 or 7 seconds. Then it leaks. I cleaned out the area and coated with POR15, so it should be good, but I'd like to have a good dependable, strong battery that DOESN'T leak.
The only bad thing I've heard about Optimas is the cost ($100+), but then, they were cheaper than the cr@ppy AC Delco... Optima's are not actually a dry cell, they're a gel-cell, fwiw. It sounds like you're diluting the solution in your battery. I'd get rid of a leaker asap. And don't forget to check the voltage at the battery. No less than 13.5 at a cold-engine high idle, and no less than 12.5 once warmed and idling down. More is better up to 15+ volts.
I got mine at the local Interstate dealer, and some stereo shops sell them also...I'd call around, because I'll bet that the prices vary widely between the car and stereo guys.
i got my optima at interstate as well and the best part about it is that it only cost me $50!! its a blem but who cares? its an optima! but now that my cars parked for the winter i have to put a trickle charger on it to make sure that my steal of a deal doesnt go south on me!
