trying to figure out what color the stripes on the driveshaft for the 69 GS 400 auto im restoring should be. i can see where the stripes were but there is no color left. 1 stripe is about 3/4" wide the other is almost 2" wide and they are about 18" apart. i couldnt find any info on this in the chassis manual. any help is appreciated.
That info is in the assembly manual. I don't have one for 69 Buick. I know 69 442 th400 is green + yellow, but I don't know if Buick is the same.
anyone have a 69 assembly manual thats willing to check for me? i searched and couldnt find anything.
Doug I remember looking at my buddies 68 car years ago that was a stick car and it was black and purple that could be a start.
According to the book I have...... 69 GS400 4 Speed - Black/Purple 69 GS400 Auto - Yellow/Green I know you mention one band was wider but book says .50 wide bands painted between welds. Did not state the distance between them. Terry
Yeah...Y/G...makes sense, I'm sure it was probably the same shaft as a 442. The bands were hand painted at the factory, so they would vary in width depending on how much the painter drank the nite before! They should be about halfway on the shaft, but same deal...they didn't measure them.
thanks for the replies. another question, what color goes where? would the yellow be the one nearest the trans or rearend?
I would assume from the assembly manual that they are Yellow then Green with Green being nearest the rearend. Terry
