I had some more errands to run this morning, and since it did so good yesterday and today is another beautiful day, I took the Buick. It did great like yesterday, so I treated to a fill up of 93 Shell premium (I had a $50 Shell gift card burning a hole in my wallet). Note that I had to pick up a corsage and boutonniere from the local florist, for the senior (meaning 55 and up, I just qualify) prom at the local Lions club tonight. They do a lot of charity fund raisers for the local area, and this is one of them.
Kudos to him for his perseverance. Reading this, I just realised that the fact that my GS is interstate has been a major driver of its progress towards completion (that and being able to put the car up on a hoist). To work on it I’ve had to take time off work, travel almost 90 minutes to Sydney Airport, get on a Boeing 737 and fly for 90 minutes then drive another three hours to the town where my in-laws live. The expense and effort it takes to get here has resulted in me really focusing on the job at hand. I have owned the car for about seventeen months and I have worked on it for about 22 days in that time (all since last Christmas), often spending ten or eleven hours on it in a day, with the majority of my initial ‘to-do’ list and much more besides completed. Whereas my 1963 Impala four-door languishes in the garage downstairs at home, needing a couple of weeks’ worth of work to finish it off that it just doesn’t get, because there’s always something else to do at home. Cheers Ben
Lunchtime cruise to downtown, fill up with some 90 octane Ethanol free gas and cruise around some back roads totaling 27 miles & 70 minutes. Guess 3/4 tank means full can see gas in the filler neck lol
Clay Bar treatment then machine polishing to see how original 1973 paint will shine up, 6 hours of work.
I tightened up the rear view mirror and visors in the GS400 earlier tonight. Now they stay put when adjusted.
I fear the last cruise for the season happened this evening. But, I am in Ohio. Could be 80 in December.
started putting together this short block with old used spare parts. Looks like I need 1 head gasket. It was storming most of the day. Nice inside activity to keep me occupied.
I put a few parts together for the first time today. Can't wait to get rolling with it. It should motivate the Supercat pretty well.
Picked up a letter "I" for the trunk of my new Riviera along with a spare rim for the trunk at an old-time salvage yard.
Briz I need to figure that out. I'm using a 54mm cam (stock location) and KBR Super Wildcat heads and our rockers. I believe the pushrods will be 1/2". Let you know what I figure out.
Looking at the size of those heads I'd guess your gonna be close to 12". 1/2 " dia would be best for something that long. Recently ordered a set from Smith Brothers for my engine. toru around time was fast and the price was better than I expected
Tonight I installed the original distributor back in the GS400. Ken at Everyday Performance rebuilt and recurved it for me. It fired right up and I set the initial timing to +12 degrees as suggested on the advance card. It has 34 degrees total now, at about 2200 RPM. I also readjusted the carb a bit. Seems to run and idle pretty good. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to test drive it. We'll give that a shot tomorrow night. Distributor before, as sent: After Ken rebuilt it:
Today I slobbered some por15 on the inside of my car lol. I did the entire interior, roof, inside the doors and the entire trunk area.
