What do you think about Dell requiring agreement to terms before using computer?

  1. Anyone purchased a new Dell lately? If you notice in the picture below, Dell now requires you to accept an End User License Agreement (EULA) as soon as you turn on the computer. Isn't that a little catch-all? What if you agree to the Win XP EULA but not to the Quicken EULA? It appears this screen makes you state you agree to EVERYTHING before you can do anything.

Arent those agreements there so you dont load the programs they provide you on 50 other computers? If you have 5 computers in your house running Win XP, they want you to have 5 copies of it. Its something along the lines of stealing if you dont

Solution: Reinstall Windows before even booting into their preinstalled Windows.

  4. That's a no go. This message pops up as soon as you turn on the power for the first time.

If it was something on the hard drive, you could get around it by taking the drive out and formatting it on another computer before first boot, but because of its nature of popping up on first power on and never again (once you have agreed to it), I think it is burned into the BIOS.

More and more the EULAs, if you read them, make you agree to having less control over the computer products you buy. Certainly, agreeing not to pirate software is a good thing, but read carefully and you'll find some surprizes.
