Well...since nobody wanted a topless rust bucket, I felt the need to relieve some stress. Some of you may want to flame me after you read this, but I guarantee you, no GOOD parts were harmed in the making of these pictures. This is the 75 Olds Delta 88 I bought as a parts car for my Centurion...basically the only good part of the car was the top. And tires....both are on my car now. I also have the Carb, air cleaner, wire wheel hubcaps, and some other misc parts. What I should've done was set it in a grocery store lot and charged $5 a hit!! But instead, I have always dreamed of doing this. The first swing went through the windshield. And, boy is that sledge heavy!!
I forgot to mention, the drivers door was held on by a bungee cord when I bought it. The door also had approx. ONE INCH of bondo in it. All the metal you don't see in the bottom portion of the car was knocked out by the sledge...ALL bondo.
It was going to the metal recycler...so I needed to do something. Nobody'd even take it for free. Salvation Army, Here I come!
I use too do that when I would send a car off to the junkyard. You always get the same line form them. Ohh we only pay 50 bucks per car cause were gonna crush it. No, I dont care if the motor runs or it has good parts. So the usual treatment of beating it too death, along with breaking anything useable. Filling the gas tank, engine and trans with water, trashing the engine compartment and then breaking the hood latch so it cannot be opened. I just make sure they are getting their 50 bucks worth. I use too be a junk car magnet and of course my dad would give me about a month and it had too go. I got ride of many good cars that way. -Matt
Man, it still hurts... I know you said that pretty much anything useable was off it, but it still hurts to see. :ball: It's always a sad event when a classic car meets the crusher rather than a restorer. Bummer.
I tried to give it away...but to no avail. The junkyards around here didn't even want it. So now it sits in the rear of my parking lot waiting for the Salvation Army folks to do their thing with it. I know it makes some of you mad to see this, but I know when a car is beyond repair, and this was well beyond it. There wasn't an inch of good metal on this thing. Somtimes you just can't save them all. This car was broken into more than once judging by the dashboard desicration. there was nothing left of the floors, or any of the bottom portion of the car. It's better off not on the road. RIP Black Beast - you made lots of people happy
I have done the same thing a few times, I just park it, or push it onto a concrete surface and beat the hell out of it. Never an american car though, just a VW and mazda. the junk yard guys will take them anyway, so why not? ________ Wong Amat condos
No Worries Hey Adam- I wasn't flaming you. I'm sure that car came a long way to be in the shape it was in before it fell into your hands. I was merely commenting that it's just a bummer that no one cared to save it earlier along the way. As you said, rest in peace. Take care,
LOL Damn Adam you must have some serious anger in you. Well look at it this way you just saved $$ by venting in this way rather than seing a shrink. Again that's some funny stuff. Ivan
Thanks for the clarification Ken I didn't know if you were flaming me, or just commenting...so I covered myself. I have met lots of folks who would love to do this to a car, and so I thoguht it would be an interesting way to live their dreams:bglasses: This USED to be a nice car before the Chicago salt got to it. Man was this thing rusty. It's very rare that a car isn't worthy of a proper reincarnation...there's nothing you can do, though. Ivan, I had a friend or 3 help me do this....we work in the outdoors with stupid customers breathing down our backs about leaky irrigation pipes when there are no leaks...I think that is a good reason to have pent-up anger:laugh:
and if you are a good boy the rest of your life, that won't be the car you drive to the here-after[hehehe]':af:'
just kidding, but i bet you could of sold it to someone. you just didn't put a high enough price on it to attract anybody. most people are supicious of anything FREE ''
I offered it for $100 to anyone I saw. I had a guy that wanted it but backed out last minute. Then it became free. I was tired of storing it and still am tired of storing it. I have no room and it's a major eyesore...and even more now! But needless to say it's a hunk of junk...even w/o the sledge job. Come see it...you'll know what I mean.:gt: :gt: :gt: :gt: :gt:
I did the same thing with a 76 Nova I had, well sorta.Instead of hitting it with a sledge,we hit it with other cars:grin: My buddie used to junk cars for a living, and he had a few demo cars leftover.Soo one thing led to another and we had our own demo derby. The moter would sieze up,and we would let it cool down and fire it back up again. You cant kill those straight 6s:laugh: .I bounced it off a 70 Riv for a while[Riv was a parts car]Ever have the fealing of wanting to ram someone from behind? Its alot of fun, with a car you care nothing about. Keith
Speaking of sledgehammers, one time we were "race prepping" a '73 Caddy. Those cars are built solid! How do I know? When we were trying to break the rear windshield with a sledgehammer, the sledge broke before the window did. Imagine the shock of hitting a piece of glass with a hammer, and having the hammer breaking! -Bob Cunningham bobc@gnttype.org
You should have made sure the neighborhood kids saw you smashing this car with a sledgehammer- they'd be afraid to set foot in your yard. I sent a '73 Riv to the crusher once. No engine, no tranny, no driveshaft, awful interior. I couldn't get anyone to take it. Body was fairly good. This was in '92. No-one would take the poor thing, and I couldn't keep it- no room. It had to go. Of course now, I wish I had it because I think that it's a really good looking, cool car.:ball:
Adam - This is a 'fun' topic with my brother!! I'm not sure he's sent a car to the junkyard with a useable panel or window on it!!:Brow: I had a 70 Chevelle that was a bit too far beyond hope (even the frame was bad). We stripped off all the good stuff to save for another one I have. Meanwhile...I my brother whips out this huge sledgehammer, hops up on the roof and starts wailing away!!:eek2: You guys should have seen this thing...the roof was caved in down to the top of where the seats would have been!! We finally found out just how much bondo was in the quarters though!! :Brow: To those that don't know...bondo really does EXPLODE on impact!!  Probably shouldn't tell ya what he did to his 76 Regal...which was also beyond hope by the time he 'killed' it.ou: It was pretty hilarious though.:Brow:
