    Hello Buick Friends.
    I have found a 1964 Buick Rivera with a 401 engine.
Is that right engine for 1964 or is it replaced?
I thougt that 425 came 1964 in rivera but i am not sure whats right.
    Can you help me?
    Best regards Janne

Here's a good article to read on the Nailhead. I'm new to them too, but if I read it right the 425 was an option on your Riv. Also, you can look for your VIN number stamped on the engine to see if it's original to the car. Mine is stamped just forward of the valley pan on my '66. I'm not sure if yours is in the same place, but it's easy enough to look!

How about some pics of the car????

my reference books say that the 64 Riv was only available with a 425. the base 4v carb and intake (engine code 'KW') and an optional dual 4v carb setup (engine code 'KW').

otoh, 401's and 425's are almost identical externally. the owner might be confused. if the 425 blew up for some reason a 401 swap wouldn't be unusual.

that link to the Nailhead article isn't working for me. try this: http://www.carcraft.com/thehistoryof/65502/index.html
