last night I popped a freeze plug and the block looked clean, no restriction and flushed again.

I started looking at air flow issues, so I removed the condenser and I think this helped! I'll find out today, it's suppose to get up to 106! Fun stuff!

Also I think my temp gauge might be off. It varies 10-15 degrees from my laser temp gun. The gun is cooler. I'm pointing right at the thermostat housing. Same location as my temp sending unit.

Tonight I'm going to try a big clutch fan from a 77 chev 454 3/4 ton that I have laying around. If it will fit the shroud?

I have read some info on clutch fans in the past and seem to remember the non thermo as the best for some reason? Can anyone expand on this? Some year truck fan was supposedly the best?

just an update guys. What made the most difference was removing the condenser and increasing the idle. It runs a lot cooler now. Much better. I definately had an air flow issue. Today I got a new fan clutch but The fan I have is not stock. I need the right fan. I think this would help even more!

    Question is:

Is there two different fan shrouds for SB and BB in 1967? I want the biggest badest fan! I have a big fan but it won't clear the shroud, came off a 77 chevy truck basically the same size as a 70 chevelle.

    Thanks

    you might try going electric.

the previous owner put some random electric fan on my car, and it flows a ton of air. not only does it cool the radiator/coolant well, but it helps to push a lot of the hot air (header heat, mostly) out of the engine compartment.

Think i fixed it tonight by switching over to a good seven blade clutch fan from a 70's camaro.

Idled for ever in 95 degree temp and never climbed past 180.
    I'll find out tomoorw when it's a 105:af:
