ok, I'm pretty inexperienced and I am looking for a frame/chassis for my 65 special convertible. I have a local guy from this board that has a clean boxed frame from a 67 GS convertible, but he is not certain it will fit and has suggested posting here. here is his post http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.ph...ighlight=frame any help and direction is appreciated.
64-67 will work, but '67 frame uses different rear springs due to the frame pockets. You need pigtailed ends instead of tangental ends. 64-66 rear axle spring pockets are different than 67 too. So take what rear you are using into consideration. There was another post recently about a reinforcement kit avail to box in a standard non-vert 'open' frame for hd use. You should be able to find a frame for under $1000...
64 to 67 El Camino frames are boxed and almost identical, I think the fuel line might be on the wrong side, but that is an easy fix. Elkys are a lot easier to find than convertibles. I know this will work because I have a 65 El Camino sitting on a 65 Skylark GS boxed frame, bolted right up. Oh, you have to change the gas tank, but that also is easy.
Just in case you're looking around... Buick "A" body frames were used from the other divisions. In other words for the '65 Skylark Convertible, Buick used the Pontiac boxed frame code "PE". :TU:
