What is GS heavy duty air cleaner option?

I have seen factory literature refering to a heavy duty air cleaner option for 70-71 GS's. I do not think I have ever seen one. Does anyone know how it is different? Is it just the filter or the housing as well? Pictures anyone? ThANKS!

 

Brett is correct.

If your car was ordered with a heavy duty air cleaner it also had a different part number silkscreened on the air cleaner body. This is the case with 1968 cars, I am not sure of other years. I believe the housings were the same.

 

As mike spoke of, wording on a base for a '68 GS.

 

And this is a standard '68 GS aircleaner. Note the letter BF/BC and part number difference.

 

Mike,my Stage 1 was ordered with the heavy duty air cleaner option. I remember when I needed to get a K&N air filter,and when I ordered the filter element,discovered later that the filter was too small I soon found out through the GS books I have,my car was ordered with this larger air cleaner assembly. I then was able to get the larger and correct K&N filter.

What way was it smaller? Diameter or Height or both? I always thought that it was just a different filter element and not a different housing.

 

Hm. According to Duanes info all cleaner housings were the same. I wonder Carl why yours did not fit? I think they were all 14"x3".
