I am considering selling one of my cars--the green '65 Special 4-dr. you see in my avatar picture. I am not really sure what it is worth--although I know it isn't worth what I have in it.

Here is what it is--looking for some honest opinions as to what it is worth.

'65 Special 4dr. sedan (regular Special, not Special deluxe)
    300 v8 hi-compression 4-barrel
    4-speed transmission
    Centerforce clutch
    Hurst shifter
    consolette around shifter
    Buick Tach mounted on column
    3.23 posi rear end
    boxed rear control arms
    rear sway bar
    polyurethane bushings in rear
front sway bar off of a '65 GS with poly bushings
chrome buick mags with new correct '65 center caps
    Poston SB107A cam
    Milodon double roller timing chain
    Crower valve springs
    hi-rev lifters
2-1/4" dual exhaust with flowmaster deltaflow mufflers
Heavy duty cooling system (3 core radiator and 7-blade clutch fan)
Am Radio with factory rear speaker and fader
    clock
    remote drivers mirror
standard steering wheel (not the deluxe one that cracks so bad)
PS and PB with DOT 5 fluid in the all new brake system

Car is restored from the frame up--very nice paint job inside and out (inside door jambs, under trunk lid, etc.)
    New floor pans
    New trunk floor
    New front glass
    all new weatherstripping
    all new interior
All chrome is either excellent or NOS
Has a nice chrome trailer hitch on it as well

I drove it for 5 years as my daily driver before I restored it and have put about 5000 miles on it since. This would make an excellent car for someone who has a family they would like to take along to the car show comfortably with them and still have a car that is faster than any stock 5.0 mustang on the road.

Cool, a 4 speed 4 door with a consolette. Car sounds pretty sweet. But as we all know especially with a Buick you never get back what you put into them. Got any pics?

    Brian,
Your car sounds really neat. I would think it worth at least 5k.

Brian the best way to say this is : ' your car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it .

As said above :eek2: we seldom get the money back that we put in .....:ball:

But your Buick sounds like a great car !

    Good Luck !:beer :TU:

You can see pictures of it on my website. Go to http://stonesautomotive.jxxtech.net then click on the button for the '65 Special. There are pictures of it in there before, during and after restoration. I have $3500 tied up in just getting it painted.

    No offense dude

    Brian,
The web site is dynamite! What will you do to fill the missing '65 void if you sell? I personally am very partial to the '64 grille, front bumper, and trim and my brother had a two door hardtop like yours. You asked and I answered but I sincerely hope I did not offend you. The reality is not many folks will fork out thousands of dollars for an old Buick four door no matter what transmission it has and what sort of paint it wears. Value is a double edge sword, a car like that is cheap to get into but also will not bring much at the selling time. My '69 Riviera GS was that way. I bought and sold it for $3,100 after I made a significant investment in time and money. Another factor is how quickly you want to sell. I was moving when I sold the Riv and it pushed me towards selling quickly. I have seen a '73 GS350 car in the auto trader in northern Ohio for two years now. He advertises original owner and immaculate for $6,500 but clearly he is in no hurry to sell. What do you think your car is worth? You are the most important opinion in my opinion. It would be a fun car to drive. ABSOLUTELY no question about that!

I think you can get more than 6k for your car, i've seen cars like that on Ebay go for more. the condition of your car is reallly good.

what price did you have in mind?

I have seen the car. Nice and Brian does them from the bare frame up. Very tallented person.

If I got $7500 out of it I would be satisfied. It is definitely worth more because of what is in it, but that is a good middle of the road price for a car in the condition it is in. I definitely want it to go to a good home if I do sell it--right now it lives in a temperature controlled garage. The reason I am considering selling it is because I could use the money for my '65 GS I am restoring, and once that is done, I don't need two '65s sitting in the garage--one is enough for me.

I think that this is a case of the car is "worth" way more than it can be sold for. Sure, it's "worth" $7500 in parts and quality workmanship, but realistically, are you gonna find someone who wants a really nice 4 door small block Buick hot rod? Unless you are preparred to wait however long it takes to find that buyer, it's gonna be really hard to get anywhere near what it's "worth."
    Just my opinion. good luck

Yeah. Besides wanting another nice car, the storage costs are brutal. Space competition is the big issue from my standpoint.

    Brian:

Join us at the Turkey Rod Run at Daytona beginning Thanksgiving day and going to Sunday. Great chance to sell. 5600 cars in the speedway and they letting theml oose on the streets of Ormond Beach at night . The best show. Also you have the Buick meet at Farmington Dragstrip this weekend. I may go too. It is near Winston Salem. Two good chances to sell.

I always found the extra doors to be practical. Although they seem to hurt value. My question is why buy a new Maxima or BMW sedan for $35000+, when you could get this Buick for waaaaaaaaaaaaay less?

Advertise it as a "2 door with extra doors"! Don't laugh, it worked for a buddy of mine who could not "give away" an Impala four door.

He advertised it "this" way, got lots of calls, most were pissed at him however there were several that were still interested and 2 guys fought over who would buy the car. He sold the car for the asking price.

    Marketing is everything!
