What is the best grade motor oil/type to use on my 430 and 455?

Now that I have acquired two big block Buicks, namely a 67 Wildcat and 70 Riv, I need advise on what type of oil to use to keep them humming.

We've always used 10w-40 with a pint of GM EOS-engine oil supplement

I run Shell Rotella 15/40 with Wix filters. :TU:

The best oil in my opinion is Amsoil synthetic. Their 0W-30 series 2000 oil is good for 35000 miles or 1 year drain interval. Their 5W-30, 10W-30, and 10W-40 oils are good for 25000 miles or 1 year drail interval. They have new air and oil filters that use new technology developed for the harsh conditions of our military in Iraq that are good for 25000 miles or 1 year. I have 8 vehicles and they all use Amsoil and all have magnetic drain plugs. I used to change my standard petroleum oil at 5000 mile intervals and all the drain plugs had a large puff of fine metal particles on them. Now I wait until 1 year (which was 33000 miles on our 2000 Suburban one year) and the magnets have almost no metal on them. Amsoil also doesn't evaporate as quickly as other oils so your oil consumption will go down and most people see gas mileage go up. It's a little more expensive initially but when it only has to be changed once a year it's actually cheaper. The year we drove the Suburban 33000 miles I changed the oil once instead of 11 times as some people recommend changing standard oil.

Don't even think of running 0W-30 on an unrebuilt 430 or 455. The motors were not designed for oil that thin unless you are in Antarctica.

GM EOS? Does it lower the viscosity?

I tried a pint of the GM EOS with Valvoline 10W-30W Racing oil. It seemed like it thinned the oil too much for me.
Is that my imagination or does adding a pint of EOS to the crankcase lower the viscosity of the oil?
Sorry about hijacking the thread but I have been curious...

    Thanks
    Bert

Pipe-you picked up a couple older cars that are new to you. I would maybe go a bit slow with adding synthetics-detergents, ect, right away-you don't want to 'unload' any internal engine sludge all at once to overload your filter. Get to know them a bit. Yes-plan on a few early and often oil +filter changes. I'd also suggest having a good oil pressure gauge-these engines have OE oiling issues. I've had/have '67 coupes=nice style. Do a bunch of reading on this site and it will give you the info you need. Add in your name/location -have fun with the cars-

    Bert-I don't think it's all that different-and a pint is only-what 10% of the volume-no biggy I'd say-
