I have been researching camshafts for my motor. I am trying to build it on the order of john massoud motor and would like to know what would be the difference in the solid flat tappet .608 intake at 264 duration at .050, and exhaust lift .640 at 284 duration at .050, 110 lobe center. And the same camshaft in the roller version.

About $3000. To set it up right......
You can get about .750-.770" lift if you beef-up the lifter bores and have the right valve train pieces to handle it. Put the money in getting the cc's and cfm up in the heads and intake.

So if I keep the solid in that form will it get me the numbers that I am looking for. If so I will have it ground.

Roller cams in our engines have been discussed several times. Even Mike at TA said that unless you are looking to extract every last bit of horsepower out of your engine, the money is much better spent on cubic inches and head work.

My steel heads are ported and I have the sp-1 intake. I am trying to get this thin in the low 10's on motor in a full body regal. i had the ta408s in the car and it would run 6.88 in the eighth of the mile and i need to go some 6.50' or better with this setup. That is why I have not put it back together. I think that i will build this one myself.

    What carb? Rear, converter trans?
We've got a 308s cam in '70 GS455 and run 6.80. Sounds like there might be more in the combo you've got.
    What is your 60' time?

Listen to Rick. Take the extra money and buy a set of Stage 2 heads that actually flow some air. I have a flat tappet in my car (in my signature) that is about the size you described above.

Cylinder heads first. The 455 will take as much as it can get. The 408 cam is an odd cam, it only is appropriate for a very small percentage of combos. The 308 or it's straight pattern (with aluminum heads) brother the 304 are better choices.

I have a 1000cfm Barry Grant Silver Claw carb, 4.10 rear end, and a 4200 stahl. In a full body Regal.
