Also a Buick 72 Skylark rear is an 8.5, still. Don't wait your money on a 9". They are also about 2 tenths slower!!!!!!! The 9" that is.

    blind or tired

Maybe I am blind or tired, but not seeing it. And what is this that a 9" is slower. HA. Parts are plentiful, and it seems to be a little easier to work on. Gear change that is. Just want to cut it right, not sure if this is a good opportunity to make it a little smaller.

Yes slower by 2 tenths. The pinion is located lower on the ring dear, hence more friction. It's your car do what you like, I'm just making you aware. I built a 9" rear for my 69 and my 68 Buicks, I since replaced them with 12 bolts. I have a Dana 60 in the 70, that's staying..

Well if have had two 9's, what did you set your axle width at? And what the hell do you have as set up, I would love to be in the 10's. If you don't mind letting me in on your secrets. My motor output is only 425/500, lookin to add gas, it still has the iron heads though. I am curious on your suspension/tranny/tires set-up if you don't mind?

I assume you want to know about the 69 car? It has stock suspension, the other 2 cars have 4-links. I beleive the stock 72 rear is 61" wide. I had my 9" set at 60" beacause it worked better for my wheel tire clearance. Are you building this yourself? It is pretty simple if you have good fabrication, welding skills. I made a jig on an I-beam, locating all the mounting points and centers. Then drop the ford rear in the jig welding all the brackets off the stock rear onto it. Had to fab upper mounts, because the stock rears are cast. Trans was th400 with t- brake, now proshifted Hemi 4 speed "Just about finished assembling the car again". Tires, 30x9 MT slicks. Wheels, Convo pros 15x 8.5 with 4.875 back space. The 9" rear in the 68 is 48" wide, I don't think that will work for you.
