When i was pulling apart my dynaflow out of my 62 invicta i seen this piece just laying in the bottom of the center housing section when i pulled the reaction shaft with planetary gear assy on it.

the piece is about 1" wide band type deal but is only about 1/2 a circle
the inner thickness is made of brass and the outer is babbit or steel looking. there are notches at about the 8 and 4 oclock positions and another at about the 7 oclock position. the one at 7 has another very close to it almost making a little bar type deal sticking out of the steel side.. this must catch something during operation because mine has a couple hairline cracks on each of the notches on the 7 oclock position.

any idea what this thing is called so i can find it in my parts book??
    thank you
i can get a pic of it if its a must... (battleing the flu right now)

Trike,,,, I think that is probably the reverse band,,,, it works off a solenoid,,,, and when you put the trans in reverse, the solenoid tighten it up and it holds the outer hub of the sun gear making it reverse rotation.... I think,,,, my oldest book only goes back to 64 so I cant research it.....might be the low range band.....ask Telesco... or Jw,,, they may know.... sorry.....

is this still conciderd a band being only like 1/2 of one? if im thinking correctly i seen the 2 bands they are actually full circles and have like a squared off type of gathering at the bottom i needed a special tool to crimp them together to get out of trans during disassembly.

this thing was just laying in there when i pulled out the shaft with the rear pump and planetary assembly on the shaft.

    ill keep hunting
    thanks for the input doc.

    WOOOHOOOOOOOOO:beers2:
ok i found out what it is and why it is not in my book. FYI in case anyone wants to know......

it is called a slipper. buick added it to the trans because of case damage occuring from the drum shifting inside the case when you put into reverse. thus leading to no reverse. this sits into place actually inside of the center case section and gives the drum something to skip on instead of the housing itself. the cracks i see he said could be from when they stamped them out in the factory but i can replace it also. he went to go get one and call me back im so stoked :TU:  that is why it dont show up on my parts breakdown.:)

i just happend along the other thread in the juice box for vintage auto trans parts and called John from Northwest Trans Parts in Winchester Ohio and he knew right what i was talking about

totally awesome. and hes like an hour or so from me so i should be back on the rebuild plan soon

    thanks for the help

any help is better than nothing at all :TU: i can actually reuse mine. not enough wear to worryabout it. and thecracks are from the stamp press as the new ones have them also.

i just hope when i put this thing back together the friggin car moves still and it dont pee trans fluid all over the place still ill be devistated uggh
but im following the book and replacing all the bushings and will keep my chin up til i have to do otherwise...

i guess i need to start poking around for a good 750 edelbrock to put on my engine since i havent started it up yet... im back to needing a carb again.. anyone got a line on a lesser than 300 something for a new edelbrock 750 for my 401 intake???
thanks again for all the help

:Dou: That nice-looking engine and you're gonna put an Edelbrock on it?

Just kidding. Everyone has their preference. Sorry I'm no help on locating an Edelbrock carb; I stopped using them on my stuff after all the issues I've run into with them. My shelf is full of Holleys and Quadrajets for parts though.

I love my Holley! Works really good, and seems to have an indefinite amount of adjustability - which IMO is a good thing. It ran great right out of the box, but there's always room for improvment.

And just in case your trans rebuilt doesn't go according to plan  , I've got a spare Dynaflow with your name on it!!!

no "prefrence" really.. someone mentioned an ebrock 750 when i first pulled my nailer for repaint so i stuck on that... i always liked holley carbs just for s&g's when i was a kid lol if i can get a good holley 600 that be good too.. the ebst bang for my buck for a weekend driver now n then is great. not lookin to fry tires ( on the strip anyhow hee hee)

i really didnt want to rebuild the original 4GC rochester thats on it becasue of the issues i heard of the warping of the plates n such so wanted to get something alittle more up to the times to stick on er.
what kinda dinero you wanting for a 600 shoebox if u gots? any pics?
    thanks everyone

That deal I had on another posi fell thru - right now I just have the one I picked up back in August.

I'd go with something a little more than 600cfm, but that's just me.

You will not find a oem number for a holley used by Buick... because Buick never did use them in production.... on a nailhead the holley carb is a aftermarket deal..... but they are really good carbs and you can get a ton of accessories and parts for them....
My 425 does real well as a driver/cruzer with a 600 cfm carb... runs really strong,,, surprised me.... the car has a 3.08 gear.... I put a 670 cfm on it and did not gain very much....power wise....but I have not worked with it at all to refine it....

The Barry you refer to is Barry Grant of BG/Demon. Awesome carbs, I rather have one of them then my Holley, but I got a good deal on the Holley I couldn't pass up.

The Dynaflow is all your dude! It's even been reseasled (front seal, rear seal, and pan). You'd just have to re-use your converter. But, here's to hoping you don't need it :beer !
