I just picked up a "Buick Hot Rod Cam" from my engine builder. It's an Elgin 1096 HYD cam with .480 lift. Picking it up on Saturday so I'll have the card then. According to what I've found (not much) this should be a very lopy cam that won't run power brakes. The intended motor would be a '72 GS 455 that has been in my shop for quite a while. Heads are done (stock) and the bottom end needs to be done (boring, crank, ect). This would go into a lightweight street car ('32 Chevy Street rod?) on a tube (2x3) chassis with TH400 & Ford 9" (gears?). Projected weight would be 1800-2000 lbs. Manual brakes & steering, kinda thinking rat rod as that shell isn't that straight. Anybody have an idea of what this is and how to build the 455? Jim
That is the exact dilema! They used to have the Buick section (pre 1990) that listed this part. Engine builder is somewhat familier with this cam, but doesn't have any books older than 1990. Maybe Mike T. can answer this one? Jim
Isn't there a Charlie Evans all the BBB cams text file out there somewhere? Seems like it was Charlie, maybe Mike Phillips... I think I've seen it on this website.
The original is offline, bt the internet archive has a copy here: http://web.archive.org/web/20080112...ick.org/partners/Charlie+Evans+cam+tables.htm Devon
