What is this fuel-tank related part?

I'm going over brake lines and fuel lines, and during the process I had to take off the fuel tank.
It looks like no one has ever taken off the fuel tank (bolts look like they've never been touched).

Anyways, I see these 2 tubes, and they weren't connected to anything.

My question is: Should they be connected to something? Is there something I should do?

    Thank you :)

Its a vent. The plastic thing is a filter

Gotcha. Is it possible for water to get inside? And is it mandatory to have this vent or should I close the holes just in case?

No, that's why the hoses run up the trunk floor the way they do. No chance of water getting in. The tank has to be vented otherwise you'll created negative pressure in the tank

You should have a metal clip that attaches to the underside where those hoses and plastic "vent" get held against the floorpan underside. Prevents the hoses from going "horizontal". Installed, the hoses and plastic "vent" should be pointing upwards. If you look at the vertical "wall" of the floorpan where the hose/vent assembly is located you should see a screw hole (or possibly the clip/bracket).
