the stock 350 in my 1970 buick skylark has a horrible vaccum. i cant figure out where it is coming from. i just replaced the water pump, and previous to that installation, the vaccum was either nonexistant or not nearly as bad. it sounds like it is coming from the top end of the engine, but i cant seem to find it. are there any typical gaskets or other problems that could be causing this? also, is there a simple diagnostic technique to find out where it is coming from? ~charlie~

Make sure all your vacuum ports on your carburetor are hooked up to something, or capped off. These will hiss like a banshee if not covered.

Also check for old brittle vac hoses that may be cracked. If they are old lines, change them all.

    yes!

If you have a vacuum leak, you'll lose lots of power.

And, there are no stupid questions:TU:
