The thing on the right, at first I thought it was a clock, but then I thought to myself, how would I set the time?, So then I though it was a compass, but I don't think they had such things back then. Help me out here. Whatever it is, how could I possibly fix it? Thanks Slawek
Henry is right. Just a cover to fill the hole. Some cars were ordered with a tach in this location, or clock. I hope you have a sense of humor! You just found out that there are a bunch of jokers on this BB. "Prototype of version of blond star" Yea:grin:
I think you can drop in other gauges in there, isnt there another gauge like that only it has the gas/clock/temp built in? Im pretty sure it could come with factory gauges with the GS option. But im no A-body expert.
Why would Buick put a blank guage in that has lines on it that look like a compass or clock??? How hard is it to put a tach in there? And how bout wiring?, Anyone got one for sale?? Thanks Slawek
Larry hymowitz has posted about putting an aftermarket tach in his....I think its in the Interior section of this board. .....THey did the same thing in '69 except only a clock was available - right side of intrument cluster.
I think there is a clock in good looking shape, though non-functioning, on EBAY right now. I think these can be retrofitted with a quartz movement, but not too sure about that.
my guess would be that they didnt want to have too many delete plates, so they put that in there just because it looks better. many cars had just a delete plate to the right of that spot, so they just didnt want another. the tachs are repro'ed and sold by the parts place in chicago, they have em on ebay all the time. i am not familiar with the quality. i would assume they sell the wiring also. since your car is a 1970, you will need to tell them if it has a flat lens, or a convex lens. you might find one here on the bb for less money. HTH, henry
If you happen to be good at cutting/making things fit. Go buy one of those "cheapo" tach's at autozone for $45. You can take the front lens/housing off the tach, pop off the little needle, drill a hole through your block off plate, stick the shaft through and put the needle back on. You would just need to find some way to mount the electronics behind in and match the rpms.
