Torino’s once were one of the most common cars on the road. I’m not talking the Cobras and performance cars but the average ones. My next door neighbor had one. It was a fastback GT and she was an old lady. Now you don’t see them at all. I mean never.
This is hard to admit. But since I'm among friends it was a 1972 Plymouth cricket. Mom had a 68 ford t bird with the 428 but she wouldn't let me near it fearing I'd wreck it. I did take it for a few joy rides when they went out of town before I had my license but mom sold the car because it was a gas pig and during the gas crisis.
1st ca I learn to drive was a new 1963 Chevy Impala. I actually learned to drive a 1947 Ford 1 ton pickup when I was 10.
It took me years to forgive my dad for buying that car. The dealership had a left-over 72 Brown Torino GT Fastback with a 351 in it, and the brand new 73 Green 4-door for the same price. He picked the new car with the ugly 5 MPH bumper. Duane
1970 Dodge Dart Swinger with the 225 slant six. That engine was indestructible, I know, I tried to blow it up several times.
1987 Olds Cutlass 4 door. Started learning when I was about 8 years old. Started driving it home from town (14 miles) by myself at 12 years old because dad would drive a truck home and need to leave it in town. He would need the car though to go to work on 3rd shift and town was the opposite direction. Funny thing was my brother, who was older than me didn't want to do it afraid he was going to get caught by the police. Took my test in my pickup 1995 S10 long bed fun to park that thing. Learned driving a stick shift when I was 18.
Learned to drive in my Dad's 79 GMC Jimmy w/ 6in of lift and 36" GroundHawg tires and a 4 speed gearbox. had to watch where i put my foot down cause most of the floor boards were rotten away. its always fun watching the road go under ya while driving 45 down the road.
Jenn learned to drive with our 66 Electra 4dr, and 66 dual-quad 425 Wildcat GS. She even took her driving test with it.
I learned on a brand new 1969 loaded 4 door Skylark, my parent's car. It was bought at Bertonazzi Motors in Milford MA. I think that's now Vendetti's in Franklin.
Learned to drive auto in my mom's then mine 72 Skylark convt. And learned standard on my Grandfathers 60 Valiant. 3 speed with a slant 6. I bet he never chirped 2nd in it. It was this color.
The options and trim levels in a Nova were just incredible. Probably the best car either of my Parents ever owned was a 74 350 Nova with AC. That car could take a beating. My Mother bought it used after a friend wrecked her Pacer. Best thing that ever happened to that car.
Anyone remember this emblem? It was a high theft item. People loved it. Very common for people to come back to their car to find this gone.
