I tried to put my 1978 425 caddy engine and transmission in my 63 wildcat. Trans hits firewall.

Anyone know what combo will go in without cutting firewall?

    Thanks,Dom

    What transmission is that?

Is there a trans that will bolt to my caddy 425 engine that is smaller that you know of?

"SP400" is a Switch-Pitch TH-400 used in Buicks during the mid-60s. externally, it's the same size as a normal TH-400.

i don't see how an SP-400 could fit in there and yours not.

i think, technically, the correct terminology is ST-400 for "Super Turbine".

the Nailhead ST's won't bolt to your block because they've got a Nail only trans bell but if you can find a 1967 ST, that will work.

can you fabricate pads to mount the Caddy engine lower or are you running into clearance issues between the oil pan and cross member?

your 425 does have a TH-400 on it, doesn't it?

worse comes to worst, if you have to hammer on the tunnel/firewall a little bit i doubt you'll ever notice it from inside the car.
