What posi would fit on a 69 skylark 350?

    Hello Everyone,

I recently bought a 69 Skylark 350 four door. I've been looking into getting a limited slip differential and upgrading to a gear ratio that would be slightly better for acceleration. The rear end is currently stock, with a 2.73:1 gear ratio. I've been looking into options to upgrade it but haven't been certain what specifically would work. Would anyone be able to link what they bought to show me what I should be looking for? For gear ratios I was looking for about 3.42:1. Would I be looking for a 10 or 12 bolt if I were to do this? Also, if there's anything wrong with what i'm saying, feel free to correct me. If there's any more information that's needed, let me know! I'll be happy to provide it.

    Thanks,

    Charlie

If the rear in your car is stock, it is the Buick 8.2 10 bolt. The 68-70 Buick 8.2 10 bolt rear is a good rear, but it is a Buick only rear, and the aftermarket support for it is not as good as other rears. If you want to add a Posi carrier and gears to the rear in the car, you can, it just will cost a bit more than if you had a more common rear. There is a board member here, Jim Mitchke, screen name Monzaz. He has the parts and gears to fit the 68-70 rear. You can Private Message him, or use the contact info on his website.

You can also look around for an entire 8.5 10 bolt rear from a 71-72 Buick Skylark/GS or Olds Cutlass. It will bolt in to your car, and parts for them are much more plentiful.

Thanks! That's exactly the information I was looking for. I thought it was the 8.2 ten bolt, but I wasn't certain. It's always good to check with the people who know 100% what they're talking about, right? :Brow: I appreciate the speed of your response.

    Thanks once more,

    Charlie

Remember, it is a 44 year old car. Lots of things get changed in 44 years. You need to verify that the rear is original to the car. Take some pictures of the rear cover and rear u joint retention. Let Jim have a look, or compare it to the link I posted. Also, there was a 64-67 Buick-Olds-Pontiac 8.2 10 bolt. Not the same as the 68-70 Buick rears. You will see parts for the 64-67 rears in Jegs and Sumitt. They will not fit your 68-70 rear. Years ago, they reproduced the gears for the 68-70, I believe they have 3.42 and 3.64 if I am not mistaken. Check with Jim on the Posi.
