68 -70 8.2" Buick only rear gearset. The only repros are 3.42 ratio sets just made. If you tell us the engine you have we can tell you the standard ratio offerred. It does not mean you car has the standard set up or that it was not changed along the way. If you pull the cover and rear the numbers off the ring gear we can tell you the ratio.
Standard Ratios for '68 GS GS350 manual or automatic - 3.23 (options none) GS400 3 or 4 speed manual - 3.42 (options 3.64) GS400 automatic - 2.93 (options 3.42)
I think the Canadian cars all came with 12 bolt rear ends. Check the codes on the axle. If not Canadian it has been changed.
No '68 GS's were built in Canada, '69 was the only year for that and they did come with 12 bolts from Canada... :beer
It has the original 400 motor and the reason why i am asking is because it has no posi and i am considering buying a power traxx for it. then it has to be a 10 bolt 8.2. Anyone know how many splines??
Ok if you have 10 bolts on the cover it is a 10 bolt rear ...bolt in axles it BOP rear c-clip it is chevy rear both these axle are 28 spline the BOP 28 spline is a 60 degree cut and the chevy splines are a 45 degree cut. If your diff cover has 12 bolts on the cover with the eyebrow looking bend in it on the top half then it is a chevy 12 bolt c-clip rear. 30 spline axles IF by chance you have a 12 bolt cover smooth and the bolt hole are symetrical and the rear has bolt in axles YOU have a O type oldsmobile 12 bolt and that also too is 28 spline 60 degree axles spline. That should cover the GM rears. Jim
