I have a 65 special that doesn't run anymore(I killed the tranny this year). I allready have a 75 455 and the brackets to put it in. Recently I found a running and decent shape 72ish Riviera for sale. I could get it for about 15-1800. What should I do. Finish the project or get the riv. And yes I can only afford one. In fact I can't even really afford the one I have.
If it were me I'd keep the 65! The Riv is a nice car but you already have the 65 which is a real neat car also. For less than the Riv costs you could get a good used SBB 350 and a 350 turbo and put in your car. That combo would really wake up your 65, there's always guys taking perfectly good 350s out of thier cars and putting 455s in them. :TU: Dave B
question Have you really scrounged for the parts to fix the 65???????????? I would keep it . It is so easy to work with and is increasing in value every day. What engine is in it? A 350 will go right in. A nailhead will go right in. a 400-430-455 will go right in. to put the n/h or the 455 in you will have to change the trans, cross member, shorten the drive shaft, and the radiater. Plus set the chassis up to handel the increased torque. If you just put in the n/h or the 455 when you stand on it the car will get severe wheel hop and try to go sideways with you. You will have to set the suspension up for the power. Also the brakes. How ever, all this can be done in stages to spread the cost out and it makes for one real nice car that every yeahoo in town doesnt have.

I allready have a 75 455 with a th400. Both work good but are used. Im also disapointed that they are 75. My town has a few buick but not many. Pretty heavy on civic and stuff. :3gears:
65 I put a 430 into my 64 lark one time, It is a good swap, not hard to do. You just have to be ready to swap out some parts. The car runs good after the swap if you set it up for the additional power before hand. If you dont you definitly have problems. Dont ask me how I know, but I know.
Doc, you make wheel hop, tire smoke and sideways acceleration sound bad. I just thought that was how cars were  I just start with big engines, then keep rebuilding everything else until it holds up. I finally have everything built to withstand my motor and then the motor went ou: Now the next motor should be a bit better than the last, I think everything will hold upo No:
