Who can tell me which size factory rim I should buy for my 66 Skylark?... 14x 7's?... but with what size back spacing?... Thanks! Tom
Yup!....14x6. But later 15x7's will fit too if you keep tire sizes in the 235-255 range. That's what I have on my '66 Special. Backspacing varies somewhat between years. It's obvious if you look at where the wheels' center section is positioned in relation to the rim....I believe the early rims are flush, but later rims are offset a half inch or so. I'll try to post some pics this week which shows this...
Pics! This shows the wheel offset.....If I remember correctly (don't count on it!), the early wheels were almost flush (pic on right), the 68-69 had a little offset, and later wheels had more of an offset. My finger points to where the offset can be seen. Here it's about 3/4". Wheel on right has almost no offset...the center section is nearly flush with that last lip on the rim...
Hey Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate this, now I have more of a understanding. What size do you have on your 66's?... Thanks Again, Tom
I'm using 15x7's on three of them....The blue car has a Chevelle rear (it's one inch narrower), 275-60-15's just barely fit with with the wheelwell lip modified! 255-60-15's will fit nicely on the stock GS & Special. And 235's on the front. I just like the look of the larger 15 inch wheel, and they're easier to find in nice condition. They were used on Regals into the 1980's...
