Just trying to get a consensus from you guys on what slicks you like and dislike on stock suspension. I tried the radial Hoosier with minimal success although I did run my best with it. They seem to be too inconsistant for a guy that only goes to the track a handful of times a year. Thinking of going with the stiff wall MT 29.5 X 10.5. Any experiences are appreciated.

What size and compound were you running in the Hooiser radials? I went from the MT bias 30x9 to the radials from Hooiser in 30x9 with the C07 compound. They have really help with my car as far as consistancy and even Reaction times. My suspension is just boxed control arms, stock uppers, air bags, trick springs, and competition engineering adjustable shocks. My car isnt as fast as yours, but these things really helped. I did have them break loose on me one time and thought the rear was coming out from under the car, but on a decent track, they are great. I have been running them at 22-23 pounds to.

    Talk to you soon

The hoosier 29x10.5w stiff is the best tire I have run ,but a mt 29.5x10.5 work good to but is a little taller then my car like I lose 60' and the big wheelies with them but they hook good:TU:

Most racers agree that a radial (slick or drag radial) tire is faster on a good track, but when the track goes away, the tires go away faster. I have run Hoosier 9x30 C07 radials and M/T 295/65 drag radials on my car. On a good track they worked great, but on a so-so track they became very inconsistent. They might hook hard on one pass and completely blow the tires off the next pass. If a bias tire spins a little it will recover and hook, where if a radial spins it tends to keep spinning.

I wish I could get a M/T 29.5 x 10.5 bias slick up under my car. I just don't see how it will fit. I'm thinking I will need to "mini-tub" it by cutting the framerails in half and making them narrower to gain about a half inch of clearance. I think a 15 x 10 with a 6" backspace will then fit in there with the M/T 10.5 slick. Remember, a bias slick grows alot more than a radial. The M/T rep told me I need about 1" all around the tire to allow for growth. I've run less than that on other cars, but it gives you a idea of what is required.

Sorry to ramble. Right now I have 29 x 10 Goodyear Bias slicks. I haven't found the set-up to make them work good yet. They look a little small on that car also.

    Have fun.

After a little more research the 29.5 X 10.5 M/T won't fit since they are a little larger than 295/65 R15 Drag Radial which are slightly rubbing the wheelwell molding already. I was leaning more towards M/T's but there really is nothing in between the 28 and 29.5 which a quite a bit larger in circumference.

Denny, are you using a trans brake? In my experience with the Hoosiers almost everytime I use the brake it blows the tires right off. If I just bring it up on the converter a little they hook better. But I kinda don't want to revert back to the foot brake since I'm so used to using a trans brake.

I am not running a transbrake, i footbrake the car. There could be a world of difference there with and without a transbrake, not sure. I know that the one thing that i like about the radials over the bias is that there is no growth to them compaired to the bias, i dont have alot of room in the wheelwells of that car and a 9 inch tire is all that is going under it.

I have run the 28x10.50x15 MT dragslicks.

I'm currently runnning M&H Dragradial slicks (stiffsidewall).

    Guys,

With the M/T 295/65 drag radials, what wheel back spacing are you using?

You're probably going to need a 5.5 backspace. My rims are 5" and they only rub going around turns. You also need to roll the outer wheel lip.

Down here the Hoosier quick time pro has become very popular. Even though its a DOT tire they have alittle stiffer side wall. I run them with tubes. They hook every time. I've got a little more tire.
