My Friends: I have a 1967 Special Deluxe, although the title says Special a few have told me it's the Deluxe series. It's a 2DR/HT with the 300 v8. All stock, with 140,000 orig. I need more pep, i'm looking for an intake so I can at least step up to a 4 barrel, and then would like to go farther I think. I have also considered a BB to get the job done. Any ideas would be appreciated, I would think a lot could be done with this engine, I know in the 60s we did a lot with the 265s, 283s, and 327s. Thanks all p.s. forgot to ad its a powerglide. Wil
Well first off, good choice of car! 67's are very good looking cars. As for your options, you could probably get a lot of suggestions if you filled everyone in on things like your budget, what you are going to do with the car, how much time and work do you want to invest, what your preference is. Lots of ground between finding a four barrel manifold and building a stout big block. Every bit of that ground has been covered by many people on this board too so a little more information and you may find yourself overwhelmed with options!
If you want "pep", then I would say swap the tranny for a properly built 200-4R and change the rear to a 3.42 to 3.73 gear. That will change how the car drives dramatically. Those changes alone just might give you the pep you are looking for.
OOOOk,,,, The 300 is a good strong running engine in its class,,, especially the ''optional'' version with 11 to 1 compression.... lots of possibilities ....and I might add,,, the trans is not a power glide.... it is a st 300,,, it is a 2 speed alright but much better than a PG.... real tough trans.... I am with speedy ,,, get some gear under the rear end and a posi.... Go to the wrenchin secrets section and check out my list of cheap tricks....I have done all of those with a 64 lark and they really work..... you have a lot of options with that car/engine/trans/diff......The car that I built up ran in the old D/S/A class and was a class winner.... surprised a lot of chebby owners and pontiac owners.... Now you can get a lot more speed equipment now, than we could get back in the early 70's,,,, now, you can get cams, better exhaust components, distributer recurve kits, carbs, cold air packages, ect... back then you had to do all that stuff the hard way..... BTW that trans is a switch pitch trans... the torque converter vanes change pitch for a much lower gear ratio.... best thing since sliced bread..... Good luck....
That's easy to check: VIN starting with 4 34 07 is for a 2 drs Special with V8 engine. VIN starting with 4 43 17 is for a 2 drs Special DeLuxe with V8 engine.
i will sell you a 350 4bbl motor top to bottom and front to back with flywheel for $350 and its an easy swap as well where do you live Greg ghildebrand@wi.rr.com 1-920-893-0629
the 43407 is a Special 2 door sedan the 44317 (I am assuming you wanted to type 43417) is the GS 340's so neither of those would indicate a Special Deluxe 2 door hardtop should be a 43517 or a 43617 - the 43517 was standard with the v6 but the V8 was optional, 43617 the V8 was standard - of course the 340/4 was optional in both of the models If it is a 43517 and has the V8, the door pillar will have 43517 the vin tag under the hood will have 43617 the two numbers will differ.
I was pointing out how he could check the difference between a 2 drs Special (I never said this was a HT model, because it was never built) and the 2 drs Special DeLuxe. This because he wasn't sure if his car is a Special or a Special DeLuxe model. I know about the HT difference, but some people don't know what this exactly means. So I played it safe and posted the first digits of the VIN for both models :TU: I see what went wrong here, that last VIN should be 4 36 17
