Hello everyone, I just found a leak comming from the radiator and figure I'll yank it out and have it checked, besides it needed a flush. So what do I do with the old stuff? I want to do the right thing. While I'm at it, is there anything else I should have done to it? It's cooling a 350 that I'm planning to build up. Thanks, Alex
Feed it to the local cats, no, don't do that then there will be mice! Around here occasionally, the local environmental groups set up a Saturday to bring all that kind of stuff, old paint cans, oil, batteries etc and that's where I usually get rid of it.
When i flushed my radiator i let the antifreeze flow into a new oil catch pan. Then when i refilled the radiator i dumped the old antifreeze in the empty containers. A local Jiffy Lube should be able to take it off your hands. Goodluck. :TU:
mice, cats, whatever, just keep the dog away from it! Seriously, around here the city says to flush it down the commode, and the sewer treatment plant will handle it...sounds fishy, but then this IS West Texas, home of the 1,000' water well... o No:
Thank you all for your responce. I picked up a contianer from work that I can use to put the antifreeze in and cap it. I'll be taking it to the Jiffy Lube by me, thanks Rob I forgot about them. I don't know about where you all are from but here in Chicago you dump antifreeze, oil, and the like, into the sewers you get locked up and pay a hefty fine. Thanks again.
Drinking antifreeze is a nasty way to die for any living thing...even cats ( we just happen to have 4 furballs). Your local Poop Boys should take it at N/C for you as well as your used oil. Jason
For info on how to locally handle just about any waste products including antifreeze go to www.earth911.com
Flushing Unless things have changed around here, that's what we can do. Heck, It's what the local auto talk host on the radio Paul Brandt has said to do with it. Although, I see from that earth 911 link that there are places I can take it. Which makes me think things have changed. o No:
just bottle it up and keep it for an emergecy :Brow:  toss one in your trunk  o No: hell toss one in your neighbors trunk :eek2: uzzled:
try this... Interesting response Clint. About a year ago, a woman here in Omaha tried to poison her sister-in-law with Prestone anti-freeze mixed with Lime margarita mix. She chose that because you couldn't see the anti-freeze in the mix! The morning radio guys here started calling her Prestone Plembeck. She got 5-10 I think. o No:
I seem to remember that it's not really a deadly poison, but its main deal is it attacks the optic nerve, leading to blindness. Among other not-good things. That's why I was always told to keep it away from pets... Is it really a *Poison*? o No:
Years ago I worked in a private psychiatric hospital on the adolescent ward. We had a kid who tried to kill himself by drinking antifreeze. Didn't kill him, but he was a mess... So, it may not kill you, but I'd sure as heck consider it a poison.
Yes, it is... Make no mistake, if taken in large enough quantities, it WILL kill you. It is a poison!!!! :Smarty:
