I guess this is the site to go to for this particular question. I just picked up a nice '01 S-10 p.u. to replace my '97 S-10. The '97's body is disappearing before my eyes. It still runs like a new one even though it has about 218k open highway miles on it & still doesn't use a drop of oil between changes. Can anyone tell me which series tranny the '01 has in it? It has the 4.3 v6 engine with a 4 speed auto o.d. tranny behind it. Would it be a regular 700-r4 or some downsized half breed o.d.?? Everything seems to be in top running order so far. Thanks in advance for any info you can share on this. It's greatly appreciated. Thom Kleckner aka: "59Willys455"
Dwayne, Thanks for your info. Is there anything about this tranny that I should be worried about? Is it a weak tranny? Does it have a good reputation? ray: What reardiff did they use on the '97 & '01? Was there a posi avail. for it? Thom
Not too bad a trans. Probably the weakest/most common failure would be the sun shell (sun shell info) I'm afraid that I can't answer your questions about the rear end accurately, so I better not say anything on those.
if it's a 2wd,it will have a 7 5/8 ring gear.very popular.usually had 3.42 or 3.73 ratio.limited slip is common (look for G80 on your option sticker).same diff used in astro vans if you go looking for one.
Thanks for the info Ken. The only "G" code listed on the sticker is "GU6" for the '01 & "GU4" on the '97. I have no clue what that is. Thom
those are gear ratio codes.but can't remember off the top of my head which they are.can look tomorrow at work.
