What was the first year you could order a space saver spare?

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

I have a space saver spare tire that came with my 70 GS, but the rally wheel appears to be a 71-72 to me. I figured this question would be a piece of cake for the buickphile masters on the board.

I think '77? That was the year they downsized the cars and trunkspace became smaller. :Do No:

I know they had them on some cars as early as 79.

According to my info the Buick A-bodies first had them in 1969.

Correct, this is one that requires the aerosol inflator. The tire is kind of folded toward the front and only has linear tread. It is a 14" rally wheel with the same offset as a 71-72, but not the deep dish disc brake wheels.

    Tim,
If you are trying to figure out what year the wheel/tire is there should be some date code/rim ID numbers stamped into the wheel somewhere. If you listed what they were I might be able to help with this.

I believe a friend of mine has one with his 69 Mach1.

I also think all the 69-70 Boss 302's came with them. I found an original 69 ford space saver in a skylark we were parting out and gave it to my friend with a 69 Boss.

If you mean the inflatable type, they were standard issue on 1968 AMC AMXs. I'm not saying that was the documented first use of them, but it had to be close. BP
