I bought a 75 Lesabre 4 door for the 455 engine. The trans looks like a turbo 400 and I forgot to check if it was a long or short tailshaft but it obviously fits Buick, Olds, and Pontiac. However I had a guy mention to me that certain years it may have a dual bell housing pattern so that it fits Chevy as well. I have never heard of this before, is he full of it? or did they make some like that? Anyway to tell? It's still in the car, outside and winter time so I won't get a chance to pull it out and get a good look at it till spring. Thanks.
You will have the longshaft 400. You can use it for parts or save it for repair in case you know someone who breaks/cracks a case.
http://www.teambuick.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9781 i've never heard of a dual pattern TH-400, but if it is it'll have 10 bolt holes. Chevy and BOPC housings share the pilot pins and bottom two holes, the upper four holes are offset between the patterns.
