I wanted to know if I contacted Wheel Vintiques on making a set of 15x10" Rally Wheels for my '72 GS,which would be the largest tire that I could put under my car,and what backspace would make the tire look just right? I don't wish it to look as though I stuffed the largest tire in there just to have it rub.I was told that som Mickey Thompson Sportsman 29x12.50-15 would fit. I have on 15x7 all around 255/60-15 front and 275/60-15 rear. They look good, but I'd like a bit more meat on the rear.I kind of like those dirt track tires like I saw in the Coker Tire catalog. Somebody that has what I'm asking about....holler back. Thanks,Jay B.Britt,Jr.

Hey- I fly to DC all the time- we'll have to hook up sometime- I found a skylark out in the boonies i'd like to go look at- anyway- I run 26 x 12.50 MT S/R on the back of my 71. No clearance problems at all- 5 1/2 bs. love em and they look great- and stick too!! Don't know why the 29's wouldn't fit- looks like I'd have the room for them...

I have 295/50/15's on 15x10 steel wheels and dog dishes that I had on my 70 Skylark car. Offset was 5 inches ...Never had rubbing issues, close but not terribly close. I had more worries about the lower shock mount closeness than the 1/4 panel and my 1/4 is full of bondo...for now

Specialty Wheels just shipped my wheels; had a pair of 15X10 ralley wheels made for the rear, with 5 5/8" offset. Plan is to run 295/50/15s on my '71 Skylark. 15X7 up front, haven't yet decided on the tire size.

I went with 5 5/8" offset after comparing notes with a bunch of people using similar setups, and measuring my car pretty carefully. Also, if by chance that's too much offset, spacers will push the wheel out in the right direction. Too little offset, and you're basically out of luck. I haven't received them yet, so haven't had a chance to check for fit.

One thing to keep in mind is that the custom wheel manufacturers often have to sit on orders for quite a while, waiting for the correct size barrels to come available. My order took about 60 days, but they just built the wheels this week. My point is, Specialty Wheels may have the materials in house NOW to make a set. I worked with Michael there. Granted, I haven't seen the wheels yet, but I've heard they do good work, and Michael was very helpful. 503/491-8848.

Finally, I bought center caps and stainless lugnuts from Mitch Romanowski (find him on the members list). Very good quality--and he got them to me quick!

    Good luck!

Just about to mount the "good" tires in a day or two to almost the identical rims. (15x10 & 15x6). I had an old MT 29x12.50 tire mounted just for trial purposes. It just fit! Came close to the outer lip and close to the inner wheel house at the front, but it will work.
I don't recall off hand exactly what offset I ordered, but 5 5/8" sounds right. If you want me to, I can look it up in my records and let you know the exact measurements of the offset. Send a PM to remind me, if you want the info. I will then post it here.
    Thanks, Steve

I run 325/50R15's on 10" wide with the 5-5/8" backspacing. I did have to trim the top of the wheel well back about 3/8" to insure no rubbing issues. You would also need airbags in the rear to keep the bounce to a minimum.

Steve- If it is not too much trouble could you message me back with your backspacing? I will be running 15X10 wheels with a 28X10X15 slick. I dont want to trim the quarters or the wheel opening trim to make this work (the car is too nice!). I have heard I should use a 5" offset from others but you know how that goes...

    Thanks!

I ended up with a 5 5/8" back spacing. I actualy measured it, so I know it's right. With a 28" tire, you should be ok,....but, there are no gaurantee's. Like I said, I actualy mounted an old MT 29x12.50 tire and tried it on the car before I spend MORE money on new tires. I tried the new ones on last night and it fits good, but my outer lip is rolled on my car. I know, I didn't want to do it, but it's been that way for many years and I don't feel too bad! lol

I would say that with a 10" slick with the smaller diameter, you'll be OK with 5 1/2" B.S., but not sure about 5.0". It depends on the Brand of tire also. They do vary in size from one type to another.

    Hope this helps!!

Steve- you have been a lot of help. I will be at my shop this weekend and plan to do some more measuring, but I really appreciate your time!
