My 68 Riv has just arrived here from Utah after initial purchase in October, and I am just about to have the centres cut out of a set of 6" rallye wheels and welded into chrome drop down centre rims. The questions I have are:
If I go to 16"x 8" wheels, will 265x60x16's fit under both front and back..comfortably ...what backspace would be required
Would I be better off sticking with 15x7" or 15" x 8" and if so what size tyres would fit comfortably and what backspace
    Thanks
    Bruce

I cant advise you on the 16's fitting but I do have that size tire in a 15 under my Riv and the fit OK. The Rallies you are going to cut probably wont work either. The big car rally wheels are 1 piece and 15" so I dont see how it will work in a 16" hoop. Good luck.

    Thanks Briz
Yes I have already spoken to my wheel guy about this and have given him one to experiment with...he says there may still be a way to do it ????? wont find out till next week- keep your eyes on here and I will post his findings

I know you can run a 4.5" backspacing on a GEN 2 Riviera & I think you may even be a to put off 5". I took some measurements on mine 'cause I plan on a wheel swap myself. Try checking out the v8tvshow.com project Riviera. They were toying with the size possiblities.

Good news here ..My wheel guy has cut the centre out the 6" rally with a width of rim hoop left on... shaped basically like this [ He needs to pick up 3mm of height to enable it to fit into his 15x8 hoops. Says what he does is build it up 3mm by welding a 1.5mm section of round steel onto the horizontal section , then welds that into a chrome 8" rim. BTW this technique is engineer approved and this guy is a an absolute guru when it comes to wheel mods...This is all he does
He has asked me what backspace I need....will 4-3/8" or 4-1/2" work with 8" wheels on my 68 Riv - FRONT & REAR???? (lowered springs 1" F&R)
    Thanks

If this works out for you I would be interested in a set of 15x8 and 15x10. to fit my Riv. Let me know.
