On our 65 Merc, the rear of the frame is SEVERELY rusted. Would my body fit on a Lincoln Continental frame? If not, what will it fit on? note;it is a 4 door
Chris, Looking at your signature you are on about a Mercury and not a Mercedes (Merc is used for Mercedes here in Europe) Wasn't the 1965 model year Continental an uni-body construction ? So this will never work. But let's check out the wheelbase on both models: 1965 Mercury Montery Marauder (that's what the pillarless hardtop models were called) has a 123 inches wheelbase. 1965 Continental is 126 inches. And in the later years (with a seperate chassis again) the wheelbase keeps growing. As far as I can see, only the mid 60's Parklane and Montery models were using the same wheelbase in the fullsize FoMoCo series. Stationwagons had a 119 inches wheelbase.
Oh, we just always called a Mercury a "Merc". Not many Mercedeses in Elberton. I didn't know the Lincoln was a unibody.
I found this out when I was looking at a 4 door mid 60's Lincoln Continental convertible in an American car dealers showroom here in the Netherlands. Made me thinking "Wow, a 4 door convertible, the chassis on that has to be double-boxed or something....?" So I went on my knees to have a look underneath and was really amazed to find out this was a uni-body car
When were the days of 4 doors convertibles ? I only know about Mercedes an Lincoln 4 door ragtops back in the 60's, and maybe Bentley or Rolls Royce were doing a little project in that direction. So what other recent cars are/were 4 doors convertibles ? I Googled a wee bit and came up with this Electra 4 door convertible........ (Looks like a vinyl top 4 drs HT to me...)
