I have a 68 sportwagon and I am looking at putting some 17's or 18's on the front and either 18's or 20's on the rear. I have been reading and have come to the conclusion that the 70 and newers can get a bigger wheel and tire combo under them. I am wondering if I can get a 8" rim with a 245/50/17 tire under the front without rubbing? I am wanting as wide as possible on the back and was thinking a 9" or 9.5" wheel and am not sure on the tire size. Also what are people running for backspacing in the front and rear on the wagons? Thanks for you help.

The '68 model cars came with 14x6" rims then in 1970 they came out with the huge monster 15x7" wheels. You want to go with 20" ? It could be done with proper backspacing and low profile tires but then why not just buy a Cavalier or a Focus if you are just going for Bling? It is all a matter of personal preference but I personally don't think anything bigger than 16" looks right on our type of cars, not even when someone like Foose does it. Again, just my opinion.

Wow. I am not interested in putting a lift kit on it and 24" or 26" rims like you have pictured. I am going for a wheel and tire that will just fill out more than being all tire under there. Everyone has there own oppinions and I understand that but I am not a "bling" type of person. If done right you can make the 18/20 combo subtle in it's own right and still look good. As far as a Cavalier or a Focus you can keep them. I am really just wanting to know if a 18" or 20" rim will fit better in a 8", 9" or 10" rear wheel without having to cut anything on the wheelwell. I don't mind rolling the fender lips but I thought I read somewhere that the 68 and 69 cars had smaller rear wheelwell housings than the 70-72's. Thanks,

OK, I hope I didn't sound like I was attacking you or the car, I just have seen some pretty scary things done to some classic cars lately. and yes some can come out pretty nice, personally I enjoy classic-ish looks like this person's car:
    Updated torque thrust style.

No problem. I am wanting to make it something like that it's just that the sport wagons are so long that to me it needs a little more wheel in the back. I am the guy that likes the subtle look. I don't like a lot of flashy stuff or anything like that just make it nice and blend in almost but give it my own little touches. This is the wagon that got me headed in this direction.
