When is a set of heads too far gone?

I've got a spare set of heads I was hoping to rebuild and port, but after cleaning, stripping, and inspecting them they appear much rougher than I thought. 5 or 6 of the combustion chambers are pitted. All the seats are junk. All the guides are junk too. I'm worried these things will bury me in machine shop costs. Would I be better off spending a few hundred bucks on a better set of heads, or am I making it out to be worse than it is?

I would take it to your local machine shop and see what they say OR post pics here.

Those sound really bad with all the seats junk. I've taken 4 sets to Carmen and they all have valve recession so bad he junked them. Otherwise they looked great?!??!!!?!

Andy-if they're the set I gave you, they are junk-just to practice on, ect. If you want some good ones, get back-Dan

Hey Dan, yea it's that set I got from you a while back. I figured I'd clean them up and see if they were at all salvageable. I'll give you a shout in the spring if I still have the itch for a workable set.
