Where I'm Headed...

I don't know where anyone stands on graphics, but I'm still a fan of the 70's candies, banner graphics and flames.

Save it to say, the car is going to be one of two base colors: 2010 Jeep Natural Green Pearl, or 76 Buick Pace Car Silver (Pewter Silver?)

The reason is that I think they're the best colors to provide contrast to the graphics:

No one that I can find actually produces the 76 pace car graphics. I took a photo of my car that was real close in angle and perspective to a photo I found of a 76 PC and slid the graphics over onto my Skylark. These are going to be hand laid, and having been drawing since I was young and having been both an architectural and mechanical draftsman I know I can lay the graphics out.

I'm actually going to mock up the graphics in primer at some point (various shades of gray and black primer) just to get a feel for it before I finish it.

    So, whatta you think?

I must say that I wouldn't do it to my car, but I do like it!
Are you planning to go forward with it on the front fender - more like the original Free Spirit car (see att.)?

I think it will look great! I can't believe someone hasn't already done this. It looks like a factory graphic for that year model. GO FOR IT!!!

I'm going to stop the side graphics where they are, but if I manage to get the GSX spoiler, the color on the sides will follow up the spoiler and over top, as well as on the back

I'm also going to put the orange and black striping on the hood. None of the letter graphics will be used.

The paint will be done with reflective paint, ala the Ford Laser-Stripes. There may be an issue with local law enforcement but I'll burn that bridge when I cross it.

You might want to see if you have a local sign/graphics place that does the vehicle wraps that advertise a business. They should be able to do what you want and probably install it also. Might be spendy though. I bet if you looked on line, there are probably several in your area.

I'm too "traditional" to do that...but I like the look...especially stopping at the door. Not familiar w/Natural Green Pearl, but the "green" part sounds like it might not work too well (for me) against the orange-to-red graphic. Assume hood stripe layout will be ala GSX...and spoiler wraps it all up...:TU:

Might want to look into that "reflective" thing before getting too far along...:eek2:

Have you considered taking the two black horizontal lines and continuing them forward? May make the entire graphic integrate a bit better. As Tim N. states why not see if a sign company that creates and installs vehicle wraps can do the graphic for you.

    Nice.

I don't know about extending the black stripe though- might actually look out of place.

Love to see it when it's done! :TU:

I would like to see the graphics mirror imaged and run to the front of the car.

I also think the rear upper line should work its way up the quarterpanel a little to follow the shape of the car.

Exactly the same thought as what Rack-Attack just said...play with it and have the currently-straight upper horizontal border sort of bump upwards and follow the QP line. It'll accentuate that area (and the stylish curves of the upper QP) instead of clash with it.

I like it! Another idea for the trunk: WHEN BETTER AUTOMOBILES ARE BUILT, BUICK WILL BUILD THEM. Like Johns 67 funny car.

I'm dead set about stopping the graphics at the door, although when I get some time on my day off I can experiment a bit in Photoshop. For me, it's just a matter of taking digital pictures of my car at similar angles as the pace car pictures, then copying and sliding the graphics over, doing a free-transform to adjust them and then touch them up.

I like the idea of following the rear window line up and then running parallel to the body line to the rear of the car. It would extend the "wing" effect of the graphics.

I'm planning on using the hood striping from the 76 Pace Car, and not GSX stripes.

Also, here's a comparison of the actual Pace Car and the production Replica:

The side graphics on the 76 PCR don't extend to the front of the car. There's a lot of detail and history at Deans Garage.. I've been tinkering and researching this for a while, but it wasn't until my brother saw the 2002 SS Camaro rims on the car and said "Dude, it looks great. It looks like a Hot Wheels car."

I figured if he thought it looked like a Hot Wheels car with just wheels, some graphics would seal the deal. ;)

My rationale for GSX stripes based on fact using GSX spoiler and GSX-era body style...just a way to merge car and graphic...
