    Hi all,

I'm new here on this forum and I am so glad that I have found it. Very interessting threads to the most of my questions.
My english is a little bit rusty, because I have learned it in school 15 years ago. So I take pains writing all right.
I own a bone stock 68 riviera which has a big loss of power. I just take the 430 out to rebuilt it. The head gaskets blocked the collant flow, because of missing holes in it !! So the engine runs very hot for years. Also the PCV was in the wrong direction installed, so the engine inside is muddy.
At last the harmonic balancer is loose on the crankshaft and makes it impossible to find a good timing.

to the motor experts: what is your opinion what has to be rebuilt because of the overheating?

I have read a lot of threads about timing, cams, porting,... but all the threads were about Skylark,GS,etc. My Riviera is only street driven. My imagine for modifikations are:

MSD 6A, new timing, mild porting, cam

What cam is the best for a street driven riviera ? (more torque, because of its weight?)

    Stefan

I suggest you call Mike T. at www.TAPerf.com for advice. If you put too much cam in it will hurt the everyday driving performance of a heavy car like that. It is a common mistake. You want low end torque to get the heavy machine moving and he can help you with that issue. After all he has a heavy wagon he must get moving for an 8.99 sec pass.

Thanks Jim for the quick answer !

A call to T/A perf I had in mind, too.
What do you think about the overheating ?

Overheating can be caused by a number of things -

Clogged radiator, bad clutch fan, thermostat, fan shroud

Had you tried to flush the coolant and replace it with new?

I thought there were wrong head gasket in it, because it had only holes in it for the head bolts and the water lines look verry muddy. Or am I wrong ?
The head gaskets I saw at T/A perf had additional holes for the coolant, I think.
