Which Drag Radial?

I did do a search, but I need some specific information about specific sizes. I am sure it has been covered before.

I would like to know what is the biggest size drag radial I can fit on my 67 GS400. I currently run 245/60/14's on stock 14X6" rims. I have a pair of 15X7" rims cleaned up and ready for some new tires on the back for use on the track only. I will be changing the tires at the track , but wanted to clarify a few things. I am not trying to break any records, I am running a stock 400 with a rebuilt ST400 with shift kit and operating Switch Pitch. The rear is soon to be changed to a posi unit and I want to be sure of good traction. The best it has run before is 15.09 @91 MPH with the open 2.93 rear. I am expecting high 14's, but nothing over the top here.

I am assuming 'radials' are what I need and not the tube style??? i.e. ET Street Radials vs. ET Streets?

I was set on the BFG 235/60/15s (easy to get at any discount tire), but saw the 255/60/15s that Mickey Thompson makes in there ET Street Radials. I don't know if they will fit though, and I don't know if they are available locally or will need to be ordered? I looked at the car and have well over an inch on the inside and the drivers side (which is closest to the fender) has about an inch. Seems to me that it should be fine. My dad tried in 275/60/15s on his 66 GS with a 67 r/e and it didn't fit. Does anyone have personal knowledge here to let me know.

Thanks, it would be greatly appreciated

Jarrod, we can try the test fit on your car next week. On your dad's car, the regular 245/60/15's fit fine, as I recall, but the DR's in the 275/50/15 (I think) were a no go.

I am off to Discount Tire to test fit a 255/60/15 on one of the rims that I have. If that fits, I think I will order the MT.

Edit: The 255/60/15 would not fit. Hit the quarter. I don't want to roll the lip to fit the tires! I ordered the BFG 235s... test fit on those gave a 1/2" to the lip. Should be in business early next week :Brow:

Everything is coming together just in time for temple!!!

This is what my car should look like this year: :3gears:

The only additional thought I have is, if you are going to go to the trouble to change tires, be sure you get the biggest you can stick in there. sounds like you are happy with that. what is your current thinking on the posi?

Posi is ordered as well! :Brow:

I went completely different then what I was thinking. Went with the Auburn Pro Series that will allow me to keep my original gears. Though not greatly desirable at the track (not that I am on it that much!), the 2.93s will allow a better highway gear, not to mention saving money from not buying new ring and pinion. Set up properly the Auburn should last just fine, I just didn't really want to go all the way up to 3.55s and that is what the Eaton required. But, at least I will still have posi. Installation should be mid next week and everything should be ready to go at Temple.

I am excited about this, been talking about it for long enough. Now I can really say that the track money I won went to something on the car!!! What else can I do if I win this year?!?
